The first ODI between India and New Zealand witnessed a heated moment between Arshdeep Singh and Henry Nicholls as the batter received a brutal send-off from the Indian fast bowler. After winning the toss, Indian captain Shubman Gill elected to bowl first in the Auckland ODI.

Although Will Young and Tim Seifert initially offered a cautious start to their team, Arshdeep bagged two crucial wickets, pushing the hosts to the back foot. The left-arm pacer got rid of Will Young before claiming the prized scalp of Henry Nicholls, both with short balls.

The incident occurred in the ninth over of New Zealand's innings when Henry Nicholls was trying to steady the ship for the home side along with the well-set Tim Seifert. The experienced southpaw had a positive start to the over, collecting four runs off the second delivery.

However, he couldn't capitalise on the momentum as Arshdeep Singh sent him packing in the very next ball. From over the wicket, Arshdeep bowled a short ball that bounced well enough to induce a false shot off Henry's bat.

Although he seemed to have got a decent bat on it, Nicholls could only hit it straight to Naman Dhir, who took a simple catch at the short midwicket. Thus, as soon as Arshdeep got his revenge, he celebrated at Henry's face and gave him a verbal send-off.

Naman Dhir redeems himself after dropping a sitter

Interestingly, the dismissal of Henry Nicholls marked a moment of redemption for Naman Dhir, who earlier had dropped a simple catch off Auqib Nabi's bowling. That incident happened in the fourth over of the innings when Auqib Nabi had managed to keep the Kiwi batters quiet by making the new ball talk.

It was a good-length delivery on the fourth stump line as Seifert tried to swat it away through the on-side. However, despite the batter mistiming the shot, Naman Dhir couldn't hold on to a straightforward chance, giving Seifert a crucial lifeline at the early stage of his innings.

The batter took little time to make Nabi pay for Naman Dhir's mistake, collecting 14 runs, including two boundaries and a six, off his next eight deliveries.
