On Sunday, India swatted aside New Zealand in a one-sided final at the Narendra Modi Stadium to clinch the T20 World Cup 2026 title.
While the legendary duo of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma led India to T20 World Cup wins in 2007 and 2024, respectively, Suryakumar Yadav added his name to the illustrious list of captains following his team's 96-run victory in the final.
India celebrated their third title win in the shortest format, while Pakistan's fate turned upside down, with the Men in Green suffering a Super 8 elimination from the competition.
As they gear up for the ODI series against Bangladesh, Pakistan lost one of their promising cricketers, who announced his retirement after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan suffered heartbreaking exit from T20 World Cup 2026
Led by Salman Ali Agha, Pakistan had a great start to the T20 World Cup 2026, as they registered a thrilling three-wicket victory over the Netherlands.
The Men in Green went on to defeat the United States in their subsequent match before arch-rivals India drubbed them in a high-stakes encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
However, riding on Sahibzada Farhan's batting exploits, Pakistan made a remarkable comeback in the tournament, entering the Super 8 stage with a morale-boosting victory over Namibia.
Their Super 8 opener against New Zealand was washed out, but Salman Ali Agha's men gave a tough fight to England before concluding the Super 8 stage with a five-run win against Sri Lanka. However, unfortunately, they were eliminated due to a poor Net Run Rate.
Young Pakistan player Shahzaib Bhatti announces shocking retirement
After Pakistan crashed out of the T20 World Cup and their arch-rivals India bagged the title for the second consecutive time, promising cricketer Shahzaib Bhatti announced a shocking retirement.
It's worth mentioning that Shahzaib Bhatti is a right-arm fast bowler who can be a handy lower-order batter as well.
The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in Sialkot's historic Quaid-e-Azam Trophy triumph, powering his side to a thrilling one-wicket victory through an exceptional unbeaten 32-run knock.

He also had a memorable game with the ball, scalping a five-wicket haul in the match. However, despite his match-winning contributions, Shahzaib Bhatti warmed the bench for almost 40 matches in a row.
Thus, he blamed the lack of opportunities and corruption at the grassroots level as the primary factors behind a premature retirement.
"Goodbye Pakistan cricket. At 24 years of age I am leaving Pakistan cricket. I won the Quaid e Azam final last year on live television. Since then I've been benched for almost 40 games in a row," Shahzaib Bhatti posted on X.
"My only dream is to represent Pakistan. But politics, corruption, lack of structure has ruined my career. And many others I now know why everyone is leaving Pakistan cricket. Goodbye," he added.
Shahzaib Bhatti career and stats
Renowned for his all-round attributes, Shahzaib Bhatti played only four matches, including two First-Class, one List-A and one T20 game. The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, which he talked about in his post, turned out to be his last appearance in the Pakistan domestic circuit.
