Former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, has congratulated the Indian team on winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In Dhoni's congratulatory note, the former Indian captain left a special remark for Indian Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir.
Notably, MS Dhoni was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when India and New Zealand clashed for the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who was the brand ambassador of the tournament, carried the T20 World Cup trophy before the match.
MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma invited by ICC for T20 World Cup Final
The ICC had sent a special invite to India's 2 former T20 World Cup winning captains, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma. While Dhoni won the trophy for the 1st time in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, Rohit Sharma picked up in 2024 in Barbados.

Both the captains have already begun their preparations for the upcoming IPL 2026 which is slated to begin from March 28th. Rohit and Dhoni left their respective IPL teams, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings to attend the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad.
MS Dhoni Congratulates Gautam Gambhir and Team India
After India won the final and became the 1st team to defend the T20 World Cup title, Rohit Sharma was seen celebrating with the team on the ground. However, Dhoni, who was shown on TV in the stadium until the final over seemed distant.
Fans have since then been eagerly waiting for his comments on India's triumphant campaing and the former Indian captain didn't disappoint. Taking to Instagram, Dhoni shared a special message for Team India and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.
"History gets created at Ahmedabad,big congratulations to the team and support staff and to all the fans of Indian Cricket Team worldwide.such a pleasure to see all of u play.Coach Sahab smile looks great on u,intensity with smile is a killer combo, very well done.enjoy guys(BUMRAH ke baare mein kuch na likhoon tou hi acha hai.CHAMPION BOWLER)," MS Dhoni posted.

Dhoni burries the hatchet
MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir have had a history together. While Dhoni has chosen to stay quiet around almost all major controversies throughout his career, Gautam Gambhir has been vocal.
On multiple occasions, Gambhir has stated that Dhoni alone didn't win the ODI World Cup 2011 despite the former Indian captain himself not mentioning it even once. Gautam has vocally expressed his displeasure of not being given a long rope by MS Dhoni through the latter stages of his career.

However, Gautam Gambhir has spoken nicely of his former captain on more than a couple of occasions. Although Gambhir and Dhoni have not been seen together publicly, Dhoni's latest post about the Indian Head Coach seems to suggest that everything is fine between the 2 legends of Indian cricket.

On Sunday, Gautam Gambhir became the 1st cricketer ever to win the T20 World Cup as a player and as a Head Coach of the team. No other cricketer has achieved this feat and it goes on to show how Gambhir's coaching career in T20 cricket has took off vertically.
Taking on New Zealand in the final, the Men in Blue first hammered 255 runs on the board after being told to bat first. Then, the hosts bowled out the BlackCaps for just 159 runs, winning the final 96 runs, thereby, breaking the curse of the Narendra Modi Stadium too.
