Pakistan cricket is going through a turbulent phase, facing back-to-back setbacks both on and off the field. After a painful exit from the T20 World Cup, the Men in Green grabbed the spotlight as a team member has been accused of harassing a female staff member at a hotel in Sri Lanka.
Even though the player’s identity remained undisclosed, team manager Naveed Akram Cheema apologized for the incident. But before the Men in Green face Bangladesh in their next assignment, PCB removed Cheema.
Harassment row forces PCB to remove team manager Naveed Akram Cheema
Over the years, Pakistan cricket has been facing consecutive setbacks on the field, and now it crossed the boundary rope. After clearing the group stage, they advanced to the Super Eight stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 but failed to make it to the semifinal. Amidst their woes, a shocking harassment allegation became a new concern for the cricket board.
As the Men in Green were playing all their matches in Sri Lanka, a Pakistani player was accused of harassing a female staff member at the hotel where the team was staying. The news spread like wildfire, prompting Pakistan’s team manager Naveed Akram Cheema to later intervene in the matter.
It is worth noting that it was Naveed Akram Cheema who apologized to the Hotel Staff who were reportedly harassed and imposed a fine on the alleged player.

Turning towards the next chapter, Pakistan is all set to play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. Before the team departs for their upcoming tour, Mohsin Naqvi's PCB has taken a bold step. Amidst the allegation drama, Cheema was removed from his role as team manager for the upcoming series.
That massive move of the PCB turned heads. The allegations are not new in Pakistan cricket, as players made headlines for the wrong reasons even in the past. Their repeating behaviour is now raising serious concerns about discipline and casting doubts over the team’s reputation.
Irtaza Kumail takes charge as Pakistan team manager
As the Bangladesh tour is inching closer, PCB has named a new team manager for the Men in Green. Irtaza Kumail has replaced Naveed Akram Cheema as the new team manager. Kumail, who is a 18th grade police officer, is not new to the PCB as he has served the team early on.
Earlier, he served the team as their security manager on their tours. Amidst that, the PCB made another crucial appointment, with Salman Liaquat becoming the team’s new security officer after Kumail replaced Cheema.
Another big challenge looms for Pakistan
After a disappointing outing in the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan’s never ended woes in the ICC tournaments have only extended. Now, the Men in Green face a fresh challenge as they prepare for a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.
After playing their last ODI series last year, the upcoming assignment has become extremely crucial for them, as the preparation has already begun for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
As the ODI series is starting on 11 March, all three matches will be played at the iconic Shere Bangla Stadium, Dhaka. As the Men in Green are set to face the Tigers, the cricket world awaits some thrilling white-ball showdown.
