Pakistan cricket has been hit by another controversy following its disappointing campaign in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Despite performing reasonably well during the group stage, the team failed to reach the semifinals.
Pakistan lost only one match in the group stage, against arch-rivals India, but still qualified for the Super Eight round. Their Super 8 campaign, however, did not go as planned.
Pakistan's disappointing T20 World Cup campaign
Pakistan’s first match in the stage against New Zealand was abandoned due to the weather, with both teams sharing one point. In their next match, Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat against England, which severely damaged their chances of progressing further.
Although the 'Men in Green' still had a mathematical chance to qualify, their hopes were ultimately ended by the NRR.
Pakistan player fined after alleged misconduct with female hotel staff
After Pakistan's early exit in the T20 World Cup, an unnamed member of the Pakistan squad was fined after allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel staff member during the team’s stay in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
It is important to note that the alleged incident reportedly occurred shortly before the team's final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Reports claimed that the player behaved inappropriately with a female housekeeping staff member at the team hotel.
The staff member reportedly raised an alarm, which alerted other hotel employees, who quickly stepped in and brought the situation under control.
The matter was then reported to team manager Naveed Cheema, who intervened and handled the issue internally.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, the hotel staff then reported the incident to the Pakistan team management.

Reports suggested that the management of the Golden Crown Hotel, where the team was staying, wanted strong action to be taken against the player.
However, the situation was resolved internally after Cheema apologised to the hotel management on behalf of the player.
The player was reportedly fined by the team management for his behaviour, though his identity has not been disclosed publicly.
"Before Pakistan’s last Super Eight match against Sri Lanka, a Pakistan World Cup squad player misbehaved with a female housekeeping staff,” sources told Telecom Asia Sport. “The staff shouted and called for help at which the hotel staff came for her rescue and reported the matter to Pakistan team manager Navaid Cheema," the report said quoting team sources.
Mohsin Naqvi's PCB likely to conduct further inquiry
While the matter was initially handled within the team, it is believed the issue is far from over. Sources indicate that the player may now face further disciplinary action from the PCB, led by Mohsin Naqvi.
The player is expected to appear before the PCB disciplinary committee after returning to Pakistan. Officials are likely to review the incident and decide whether to impose additional punishment.
Although the team management attempted to settle the matter at the time, the report has sparked discussions.
Reports also noted that there have been previous incidents involving misconduct by members of Pakistan teams and support staff during overseas tours.
