The cricket fans across the globe might be busy in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, but a serious military conflict in Western Asia is escalating rapidly. As it already affected the entire world, the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 also faced a major disruption due to that.

As six matches of the ongoing tournament were scheduled to take place in Nepal, it has now been postponed. Cricket Nepal announced the decision on social media, adding that the rescheduled fixtures will be revealed later.

Rising West Asia conflict disrupts ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 schedule

With the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, the cricket world was expected to immerse into the pure thrills, but the sudden conflict in Western Asia turned heads.

After Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Hosseini Khamenei’s death, the conflict turned into a regional war as the escalation between the USA and Iran is now making an impact globally.

The conflict spread with wildfire, and the sports world is also feeling its impact. After football faced setbacks due to the situation, cricket has now been affected as well.

Before the 2027 ODI World Cup takes place, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 was going on, and it faced a sudden halt.

Oman, UAE, and Nepal were scheduled to face each other in six games as part of the ongoing league from March 10 to 20. Nepal was set to host these crucial games, but they have now been postponed due to the rising global tensions. That has become a potential setback for the sides.

Cricket Nepal issues official statement on tournament postponement

As the ODI World Cup 2027 is inching closer, teams are keeping their preparation on top note, but the sudden halt has become a major setback for the teams. However, the ICC had little choice but to take the bold step, prioritizing safety and security amid the rising tensions.

While making the move official, Cricket Nepal made a statement on their social media handle. The board also added that the revised schedule will be announced at a later date.

“CWC League 2 Matches Postponed. In light of the current situation in the Middle East, the CWC League 2 matches scheduled to begin on March 10 in Kathmandu have been postponed until further notice. The affected fixtures include the matches involving Oman, UAE, and Nepal. The rescheduled dates will be announced in the coming days following further consultations,” Cricket Nepal wrote.

The Pakistan Shaheens and England Lions series also been called off

The ongoing military tensions have significantly affected the Middle East, and the cricketing world is also feeling the impact. As the Pakistan Shaheens and the England Lions were locking horns in a white-ball series, it faced a sudden cancellation.

After wrapping up the first two ODI matches of the series, both sides were preparing for the third match in Abu Dhabi, but the cricket board called off the series due to security concerns.

The halt in the qualifier tournament could also prove costly, as four teams from the 14-team event secure their spots for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup through this pathway, and the disruption may affect their qualification chances.
