Cricket was just not enough on March 5 at the Wanikhede Stadium. It needed MS Dhoni’s presence as Thala himself attended the 2nd semi-final between India and England in the T20 World Cup 2026. India won the match by 7 runs, while trying to defend a mammoth total of 254 runs and yet it was those quirky moments that stole the show.
MS Dhoni, who was at the VIP lounge of the Wankhede stadium with wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni and other attendees, including India star Rohit Shama, humbled his wife as he stopped her from celebrating a wrong wicket.

The ex-India star, who is not usually present as a spectator for India matches, was surprisingly present for this event. The cricketer came with his wife Sakshi, as he met Rohit Sharma, amongst others, in the lounge section.
Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, was present at the ground having casual chats with Indian players ahead of the toss.
For the unaware, England won the toss at Wankhede and chose to bowl first, a decision which seemed to have backfired on them as India managed to rack up 253 on the board at the loss of seven wickets, while England drastically failed at the start, only for Jacob Bethell to revive the chase and inch closer, only to lose the match by seven runs.
Nevertheless, all of this excitement and thrill of the match engrossed Dhoni's wife in the stands as she almost made a blunder for which Dhoni had to humble her.

MS Dhoni Calms Sakshi Dhoni Down After Super Enthusiastic Celebration
As Jasprit Bumrah was bowling the 18th over to left-handed all-rounder Sam Curran, Bumrah pitched a full-length delivery, which Curran attempted to drive on the leg side.
However, the bounce was uneven for Curran, as the ball hit the lower part of the bat and caught a quick reverberation with the ground to just bump up in the air.
Jasprit Bumrah, ever so aware, quickly pounced to his left following his run-up to grab the ball in the air with his left hand and athletic precision. The catch, although charismatic, was not a dismissal at all.
However, Sakshi in the stands failed to understand and misread the delivery as a dismissal for Sam Curran, who could be the only threat in India's way to the finals.

Failing to control her excitement, Sakshi Singh Dhoni in the stands clapped and jumped up to celebrate a wicket, which was not a dismissal at all.
Sakshi stood up, shouting, cheering, and celebrating the wicket, all while MS Dhoni stood behind her, smiling and apparently calming her down to make her understand that it was not a wicket, as he and his compatriots had a good laugh at Sakshi's animated behaviour.
Sanju Samson, Bumrah and Axar Patel Trio Win India Semi-Final
Nevertheless, Sanju Samson was the hero of the match with his 42-ball 89 at a crucial stage where batters like Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan kept falling. His glorious stand alongside Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya's quickfire blitz helped India post the total that England's openers failed to put a dent in at the very beginning.
Axar Patel's super athletic catches at turning points to dismiss Phil Salt, Harry Brook, Will Jacks, and Sam Curran further dented England's chances as Jasprit Bumrah restricted the required run rate with his crafty four-over spell, from which he took one wicket.
The highest wicket-taker for India was, however, Hardik Pandya, who bagged two wickets for 38 runs from his four-over spell.
