Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has finally spoken about the rumours that he might replace Jay Shah as the next Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Notably, these rumours had been spreading widely on social media earlier this week. Many people believed that Naqvi, who is also serving as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), could take on an even bigger role in international cricket.
Jay Shah elected as ICC Chairman in 2024
To understand the situation better, it is important to look at the current ICC leadership. Jay Shah officially became the ICC Chairman on December 1, 2024. He was elected without any opposition, which shows strong support for his leadership. His term is planned to continue for three years.
Before this role, Jay Shah worked as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He also started his journey in cricket administration in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association. Over time, he gained valuable experience and contributed to major developments, including the construction of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.
In addition, Jay Shah has held important positions such as President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee. He took over the ICC chairman role from Greg Barclay, continuing a strong leadership tradition.
Mohsin Naqvi reveals if he aims to replace Jay Shah at ICC
However, on Monday, Naqvi clearly rejected these claims while speaking to the media. Mohsin Naqvi stated that he already has many responsibilities and is not considering taking up the ICC chairman role at this time.
"No, there are a lot of things already," said Mohsin Naqvi when asked whether he could be the next ICC Chairman.
At present, Naqvi serves as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and also holds the position of President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
It is also worth noting that Naqvi succeeded Jay Shah as ACC President after Shah stepped down to assume the role of ICC Chairman. Naqvi was appointed on April 3, 2025, and will lead the ACC for a two-year term following the formal transition.

Mohsin Naqvi comments on PSL crowd restrictions
Along with addressing the ICC rumours, Naqvi also spoke about the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11). He shared his intention to request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to allow fans to return to the stadiums.
"I will speak again to the prime minister regarding the crowd," Naqvi told the media in Karachi.
This decision was taken as part of government measures aimed at reducing expenses and controlling public movement during ongoing global challenges. The situation is linked to international issues, including tensions in the Middle East and the global fuel crisis. As a result, the tournament has been limited to two venues, Karachi and Lahore.
Many franchise owners have expressed concern over empty stadiums. They believe that fans play a key role in creating the excitement and identity of the PSL. Therefore, they have requested the government to reconsider the decision and allow crowds to attend matches.
Naqvi has assured that he will make efforts to bring spectators back. At the same time, he confirmed that there will be no changes to the match schedule. He also mentioned that franchises will receive gate money, while the PCB will handle related costs.
Naqvi praised law enforcement agencies for ensuring that the PSL continues smoothly despite various challenges. He also revealed that there are plans to review and possibly rebuild the National Bank Cricket Arena in order to improve facilities for players and fans.
