Glenn Phillips is widely known for his excellent fielding and all-round skills. Notably, the 29-year-old often sets high standards on the field.

However, during the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) match between Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 12, an unusual moment grabbed attention. This time, he could not hold on to a difficult catch, which surprised many fans.

Strong start by LSG

At the beginning, LSG showed confidence with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opening the innings, after Gujarat Titans opted to field first. Soon after, Kagiso Rabada dismissed Marsh for 11 runs off 4 balls. Then, Rishabh Pant also lost his wicket for 18 runs, thanks to Mohammed Siraj.

Even though wickets were falling, Aiden Markram stayed calm. Moreover, the South African batter continued to score runs and kept the innings moving forward.

However, during the seventh over of LSG's innings, Prasidh Krishna delivered a ball aimed at the pads. Markram hit it towards deep square leg. At that moment, Glenn Phillips ran quickly to his left and dived in an attempt to take a stunning catch.

Glenn Phillips gets angry

It looked like a perfect effort. Notably, it could have easily become one of the best catches of the IPL 2026 season. However, as Glenn Phillips landed, his elbows touched the ground and the ball slipped out of his hands. As a result, the ball rolled away towards the boundary cushions.

At the same time, Washington Sundar was nearby and came into Phillips’ line of sight. Therefore, Glenn Phillips appeared visibly upset, likely due to the missed opportunity.

Even though the catch was dropped, the very next ball changed the situation. Aiden Markram, who had survived, got out soon after scoring 30 runs off 21 balls. This time, Washington Sundar completed the catch successfully near the boundary.

Soon after, Glenn Phillips made up for his earlier mistake. In the 9th over, he took a clean catch to dismiss Ayush Badoni off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling. Notably, Badoni was removed for 9 runs off 11 balls. As a result, Glenn Phillips regained confidence and contributed again in the field.

LSG struggle to post a daunting total

By the halfway stage, LSG reached 80 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. At this point, they tried to rebuild their innings. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans continued to apply pressure and restricted easy scoring opportunities.

As the innings went on, LSG tried to put up a decent score even after losing wickets. Towards the very end, with time running out, they finally sped things up. Mukul Choudhary, George Linde (who came in as an Impact Player), and Mohammad Shami made quick runs, helping the team score 44 runs in the last 3 overs and cross 160.
