Mohammad Rizwan has responded to reports claiming that Pakistan players may face fines after the team’s disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. Notably, Pakistan were eliminated in the Super 8 stage after struggling throughout the tournament and failing to deliver consistent results.
As a result, criticism has grown around the team’s performance, and discussions about major changes within the squad have started.
At the same time, reports surfaced suggesting that the PCB is considering strict action against the players. These reports claimed that heavy financial penalties could be imposed following the team’s poor showing in the tournament.
Reports of heavy fines on Pakistan players
According to media reports, the PCB is planning to impose financial penalties on national team players after the disappointing World Cup campaign. Sources quoted by news agency PTI stated that the fine could reach up to PKR 5 million (around USD 18,000) per player.
Notably, Pakistan failed to qualify for the semifinals after losing important matches against strong rivals such as India and England. In addition, their Super Eight match against New Zealand was abandoned due to rain. The team managed to defeat Sri Lanka in their final group match; however, that victory was not enough to secure a place in the semifinals.
Mohammad Rizwan responds to the reports
Mohammad Rizwan spoke about the issue while addressing the media on the final day of the national team’s training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre. The camp was organised as part of Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming away ODI series against Bangladesh.
While responding to questions from reporters, Mohammad Rizwan made it clear that he has not received any official confirmation from the PCB regarding fines on players.
"Many people have asked me about this, and even players have been asked, but so far nothing official has come forward. If the PCB officially states that there is a fine of fifty lakh or that the management has imposed penalties, then I could comment on it," Rizwan told reporters.
"But since nothing official has been announced yet, and these reports have only appeared in the news. I can only say that such claims raise questions in my mind about how these things are being presented when nothing official has been issued," he added.

Upcoming ODI series against Bangladesh
Meanwhile, Pakistan will next face Bangladesh in a three-match ODI series scheduled from March 11 to 15. All matches will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. This series will serve as Pakistan’s first international assignment after the difficult T20 World Cup campaign.
The squad for this series includes several changes. Star batter Babar Azam, along with Fakhar Zaman, Haseebullah, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah and Saim Ayub, has been left out of the team.
Pakistan’s plan for the future
Following the World Cup setback, the PCB appears focused on rebuilding the team with an eye on the ODI World Cup 2027. Reports indicate that the board wants to create a stronger squad by introducing younger players and gradually shaping a new team.
For the Bangladesh series, six uncapped players have been included in the squad. This approach shows the board’s intention to test fresh talent at the international level.
