South African cricketers Quinton de Kock and David Miller have strongly criticised the International Cricket Council (ICC) over what they believe is unfair treatment regarding travel arrangements after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

At present, several international travel routes are disrupted due to rising tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Due to this situation, airspace restrictions have been introduced in parts of the Middle East. As a result, many international flights have been affected, and several cricket teams participating in the tournament are unable to leave India on time.

England allowed to leave earlier

The issue started after reports suggested that England would be flying back home earlier than both South Africa and West Indies. According to a PTI report, England were scheduled to depart from Mumbai on Saturday evening on a special chartered flight arranged by the ICC.

In comparison, South Africa and West Indies are still waiting for confirmation about their departure. Reports suggest that both teams might leave from Kolkata, possibly on Sunday. Their journey is expected to include a stop in Johannesburg before the West Indies players continue to Antigua.

The difference in timing has raised questions among players, especially because England were eliminated from the tournament later than the other two teams.

T20 World Cup exit timeline

The West Indies were the first among the three teams to exit the tournament. They were knocked out during the Super 8 stage on March 1 after losing to India.

South Africa remained in the competition longer but were eliminated in the semi-finals on March 4 after losing to New Zealand.

Notably, England’s campaign ended even later. They were knocked out on March 5 after losing to India in the second semi-final. However, despite being eliminated last, England received a quicker arrangement to return home.

Quinton de Kock questions ICC

Quinton de Kock openly expressed his frustration on social media. He posted a message on Instagram Stories questioning why England were leaving earlier despite being eliminated later.

“Funny @icc, we have heard nothing! Meanwhile, England are leaving before us somehow? @westindies and @proteasmencsa are just in the dark! Strange how different teams have more pull than others,” Quinton de Kock wrote on his Instagram story.

Quinton de Kock's comments suggested that some teams might have more influence than others when it comes to decisions made by the governing body.

David Miller also criticises ICC

Similarly, David Miller also voiced his disappointment. While reacting to a post by ESPNcricinfo, Miller pointed out that England were leaving earlier even though they exited the tournament after the other teams.

“Funny that England gets eliminated after WI & SA and gets on a charter back home tonight. While WI & SA still wait for answers in Kolkata," David Miller wrote.

Notably, David Miller's comment clearly showed the frustration felt by players who have been waiting for several days for travel updates.

Teams still waiting for confirmation

Meanwhile, the West Indies squad has been stranded in Kolkata for several days. Head coach Daren Sammy even posted “Day 6” on his X account, indicating how long the team had been waiting since their match against India at Eden Gardens.

In addition, the Zimbabwe also experienced travel delays earlier. They had played their final match of the tournament on March 1 in New Delhi, but were only able to return home on March 4.
