IND vs BAN Series Again On Back Burner! Surprising Development Erupts

Team India's tour of Bangladesh has only been postponed for a year and a half now, with geopolitical differences between the two nations getting in the way of cricket.

The Men in Blue have to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against Bangladesh, with the series initially scheduled for August 2025 but pushed back due to India’s busy calendar ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Then, after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) changed its governing body, talks between the BCB and the Indian board resumed about the pending IND vs BAN white-ball series. However, as per the latest developments, the series has only been put back on the back burner.

BCCI unhappy with BCB; IND vs BAN on back burner

According to Cricbuzz, the IND vs BAN series will be pushed further, as the BCCI and the Indian broadcasters are not pleased with how the BCB is acting around. It has been said that the Bangladesh board announced its media rights, including the Indian tour, for sale without submitting the Expression of Interest (EoI) documents to their Indian counterpart.

"We have not issued the EoI documents because there has been a slight change in plans. We are now assessing the market before inviting bids. It is not true that we are withholding the EoI documents because of the India series,” a source told Cricbuzz, the report stated.

Earlier in the month, the Bangladesh board also released the schedule for the India series between September 1 and 13, a window open to India between the series against Sri Lanka (in August) and the one against West Indies (starting September 27).

BCB were hopeful for IND vs BAN series

As reported earlier, according to a Times of India report, the BCCI were mulling over pushing the three T20Is against Afghanistan to accommodate the postponed Bangladesh series.

BCB President, Tamim Iqbal, who represented BCB at ICC’s recent annual meet, was excited and optimistic after positive talks with the Indian representatives in Edinburgh, Scotland, as stated in the report.

"We are hopeful about the tour. We haven't got the green signal from the BCCI, but they have also not said they are not coming. So we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon, a BCB source had told TOI.

What's next (and confirmed) for Bangladesh?

Nevertheless, Bangladesh are currently toiling hard in Zimbabwe, where they have lost the one-off Test and the ODI series, but the T20I leg promises to bring back the fortunes for the Asian side. The three-match T20I series will begin on July 15.

After the Zimbabwean trip, the Tigers will travel to Australia for a historic two-match Test series at Darwin and Mackay in August.

Later in the year, they will travel to South Africa for an all-format series in November-December, where they will play two Test matches, three ODIs, and as many T20I games.
