On his very first ball facing Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday, Harry Brook lost his wicket during India vs England 1st ODI at Edgbaston, Birmingham. No wonder that when Brook attended the post-match press conference, a question was thrown at him about India’s talismanic fast bowler.
Brook, in response, made a very subtle verdict. And to make the topic of discussion, he did not even wait a little after the Jasprit Bumrah remark.
Not to forget, Brook was in fine form before coming to the IND vs ENG 1st ODI. He was the leading run-getter in the recently concluded five-match T20I series between the two sides, making 229 runs at a strike rate of 214.02, that too averaging 114.5.
More significantly, his best knock came only in the fifth T20I a couple of days ago. There, he made 95 off just 45 balls. Therefore, Bumrah getting rid of Brook for just 1 run was a big moment during the IND vs ENG 1st ODI.
Harry Brook Shocks Reporters With His Take On Jasprit Bumrah
Speaking after the match, Brook was asked for his thoughts on Jasprit Bumrah, especially after losing his wicket immediately upon his arrival. There, even though he had lauded Bumrah extensively in the past, Brook showed little interest in hyping him.
Instead, he just termed him ‘a very good bowler’ and explained how he lost his wicket to him before leaving the chair with a smile on his face.

“He is a very good bowler. It got bounced a little bit, and yeah I nicked it to sleep,” Harry Brook told the reporters before leaving the press conference immediately.
Brook Vs Bumrah - A Glance At Numbers
This was the first time Brook and Bumrah went head-to-head in an ODI match. Of course, Bumrah won it on his very first ball here.
In T20Is, Bumrah had Brook’s numbers as well. There, Brook is yet to score against him after six balls. Even during the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final, Brook lost his wicket to Bumrah on the very first ball he had faced him that night at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
In Tests, Bumrah has also taken Brook’s wicket. Brook has 15 runs there off 38 balls, laced with two fours against him.
Brook To Face Bumrah Again On Thursday
With no runs against him yet in the limited-overs format, Brook will go up against Bumrah once again when England and India meet at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Thursday (July 16) for the second ODI. This would be a do-or-die match for Brook and his boys, as it will be a three-match series, unlike the T20Is.
If Brook manages to guide England to level the series in Cardiff, the series will have the decider at the Lord’s, on July 19.
