After a harsh T20I series defeat, Team India are set to be at loggerheads with England in the first ODI at the Edgbaston Ground, Birmingham, on Tuesday (July 14).
The Shubman Gill-led team will look to live by the mantra of Let bygones be bygones! The IND vs ENG ODI series will see the return of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, who were there in the previous ODI assignment.
Moreover, the visitors have a much stronger line-up in the ODI leg than they had in the T20Is, with the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and skipper Gill making them a force to reckon with.
England, on the other hand, have majority of the same players who were there during the 4-0 triumph in the IND vs ENG T20Is.
Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, playing his 200th ODI for England, and Joe Root will be the mainstays of their batting, while Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue will look to continue from where they left off in Southampton. As an Indian fan, one should never discount the wizard Adil Rashid.
IND vs ENG, 1st ODI Toss Update
Shubhman Gill didn't continue the trend that Shreyas Iyer started, and lost the toss in IND vs ENG 1st ODI. England have opted to bat first in Edgbaston!
As predicted, Team India has gone with a suitable combination, with five pure batters, three all-rounders and three out-and-out pacers. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return in the Indian blues, along with the one and only, Jasprit Bumrah.

Alas, Kuldeep Yadav has failed to make a place for himself in the India Playing XI vs England, 1st ODI. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar are present in the fast-bowling department to assist Boom.
On the flip side, England had announced their playing XI on the eve of the game itself. Jacob Bethell is set to open along with Ben Duckett, while the rest of the batting is well settled.
Whereas Josh Tongue is set to make his ODI debut after his exploits in the recently concluded T20I series. Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid will take care of the spin bowling department.

IND vs ENG, 1st ODI: What the captains had to say
Shubman Gill (India Captain): "(What would he have done?) Actually, we were looking to bowl first.
The conditions are little bit similar to South Africa compared to most of the time you play in India. We can try some of the players who haven't played ODI cricket much.
(On having an experienced squad for this ODI series) Yeah, most of our seniors are back. We have got Virat bhai, Rohit bhai, KL & Boom back.
(On his good form playing in England) Yeah, I had some really good memories during the Test series. I will look to carry on with that.
(Team Combination) We have got 4 seamers, including Dube. Our two spinners are Axar and Washi."
Harry Brook (England Captain): "(On the toss decision) We will bat first. It looks like a good batting surface. We're not exactly sure how it's going to play, but we back ourselves to put runs on the board and hopefully get some assistance for the spinners in the second innings.
(On the importance of the ODI series) We're approaching this series the same way we approached the T20s. It's about assessing the conditions as quickly as possible, communicating well, and seeing where we are at the end of the day."
IND vs ENG, 1st ODI: Pitch Report
(By Varun Aaron)- Welcome to Edgbaston for the much-awaited first ODI of the series, featuring the return of some of India's big guns. Let's just talk about the boundary dimensions first. It is 87 yards all over, with just a shorter pocket behind me, which is about two yards shorter.
When we talk about the wicket, it might just be good news for the fast bowlers in the first innings. That is because when I go down and look closely, there is a good covering of grass to save this wicket from the English summer.
But most importantly, when I press my thumb or my fingernail into the wicket, it leaves quite a decent indent. That means there is a lot of moisture content remaining in the surface. Because of that, I'm sure the team winning the toss is going to elect to bowl first, look to get some early wickets, and take control of the game from there.
