Peshawar Zalmi, under the leadership of Babar Azam, crushed Hyderabad Kingsmen in a one-sided final to lift the PSL 2026 title. The outcome also marked Zalmi’s first PSL trophy after a gap of nine years.

While captain Babar failed to open his account on the big day, the legendary opener still concluded the PSL 2026 season as its highest run-maker. For his prolific run, the 31-year-old won the ‘Batter of the Tournament’ award and also bagged the Hanif Mohammad Cap.

Yet, despite his glittering accolades with the bat and a title-winning campaign, a bizarre claim making rounds on social media suggests that his reward amounted to mere PKR 3,500, i.e., roughly Rs. 1,200 in Indian currency. Here, we separate fact from fiction and unpack the truth behind this viral claim.

Did Babar Azam really get Rs. 1,200 as his PSL 2026 reward?

Babar Azam won the ‘Batter of the Tournament’ award during the presentation ceremony after the final for scoring the highest number of runs in the PSL 2026 season. The cricketer also received a cheque to compliment his award.

A social media post making rounds on the internet states that the 31-year-old received a cheque of just PKR 3,500 from the PCB. The amount sums up to be just Rs. 1,200 in Indian currency.

In reality, however, the figure has been grossly misrepresented by troll cricket accounts on social media. The Peshawar Zalmi skipper actually received a hefty cheque of PKR 3,500,000 for his award, which translates to approximately ₹11,90,790 in Indian money.

A season to remember for Babar Azam

Following a dismal 2026 T20 World Cup campaign for the Pakistan team in Sri Lanka, Babar Azam stormed back into form in the PSL 2026 season for the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. In 11 innings of the tournament, the cricketer aggregated 588 runs at a prolific average of 73.50, plundering two centuries which included a match-winning 103 against the Islamabad United a few days ago.

While Babar was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the final, even a run would have helped him attain a huge all-time PSL record of scoring the highest number of runs in a single PSL edition. His failure on the big day ensured that he remains tied with Fakhar Zaman’s tally of 588 runs from PSL 2022.

Babar Azam travels to Bangladesh for Test series

Just a few hours after the conclusion of the PSL 2026 season in Pakistan, Babar Azam took flight to join his Pakistani colleagues in Bangladesh. The Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to take on hosts Bangladesh in a two-match Test series starting later this week.

The first Test will be hosted by the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur between May 8 and 12. The two teams will then travel to Sylhet for the series-decider between May 16 and May 20.
