In a memorable finale of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026, Peshawar Zalmi produced a commanding performance to defeat Hyderabad Kingsmen by five wickets at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on May 3.
While the victory marked a historic moment for the franchise, it was captain Babar Azam who grabbed attention after the match for attempting to recreate Rohit Sharma's iconic T20 World Cup 2024 celebration.
Aaron Hardie's guides Peshawar Zalmi to PSL final victory
The final belonged to Aaron Hardie, whose outstanding all-round display proved decisive. Hyderabad Kingsmen, playing their first-ever PSL final, struggled from the start after being put under pressure by Peshawar Zalmi's disciplined bowling attack.
Aaron Hardie led the charge with the ball, picking up four wickets for just 27 runs. Despite a fighting knock from Saim Ayub, who scored 54, Hyderabad collapsed to 129 all out in 18 overs. Big names like Glenn Maxwell and Marnus Labuschagne failed to deliver under pressure.
Chasing 130, Peshawar Zalmi had a shaky start, losing early wickets, including Babar Azam for a golden duck. However, Hardie once again stepped up, this time with the bat. He played a composed and aggressive innings, scoring an unbeaten 56 off 39 balls.
Peshawar Zalmi crowned champions against Hyderabad Kingsmen
This victory marked Peshawar Zalmi's second PSL title, their first since 2017. Throughout the tournament, Peshawar Zalmi were the most consistent team, losing just one match and finishing at the top of the PSL 2026 points table.
The win was especially significant for Babar Azam, as it was his first PSL title as captain. Having previously won the tournament as a player, this victory added a new dimension to his leadership career.

Babar Azam fails to create Rohit Sharma's celebration
After the win, Babar Azam attempted to recreate Rohit Sharma’s famous celebration from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit’s celebration went viral for its unique style, including a slow, dramatic walk and expressive gestures after India's victory.
Babar Azam, joined by Iftikhar Ahmed, tried to mimic the same style while walking up to receive the trophy. However, the attempt did not quite match the original, turning into a humorous and widely discussed moment among fans.

Babar Azam's performance for Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2026
Although Babar Azam had a disappointing outing in the final, his overall performance in PSL 2026 was exceptional. He emerged as the highest run-scorer of the tournament.
The star player made 588 runs in 11 innings at a strike-rate of 145.91 and an average of 73.50. He also made two centuries this season, one against Islamabad United and the other against Quetta Gladiators.
