A familiar figure from England’s white-ball resurgence has quietly decided to bring curtains down on his domestic career ahead of the upcoming 2026 England season. Though his international exploits often took centre stage, the cricketer also featured in numerous T20 franchise leagues and has played nearly 500 matches in his career to date.
The elegant former England batter is none other than all-rounder Ravi Bopara, whose longevity and adaptability have seen him remain a sought-after name in the T20 circuit for well over a decade.
Ravi Bopara retires from England’s county cricket
Ravi Bopara has announced his retirement from county cricket ahead of the upcoming English 2026 domestic season. It is worth noting that the 40-year-old was only playing T20 Blast and One-Day Cup in England for quite some time, considering the charismatic all-rounder had already stepped away from first-class cricket.

He even reportedly received offers to play the T20 Blast in England this year, but Bopara rejected them all in favour of a commentary stint. He is also aiming to become England’s new national selector.
Ravi Bopara is one of the few players who has played in each of the first 23 editions of England’s T20 Blast since its inaugural season back in 2003. With his retirement, he will not be featuring in season number 24 this year.
While speaking with ESPNCricinfo about his retirement, the former England all-rounder said “I'm not walking away from cricket at all. I did think hard about the Blast. That was a really, really tough one to think about. But I'm excited for new things… I've had a good opportunity with commentary, which I think I'd be silly to turn down.”
A look at Ravi Bopara’s IPL journey
A veteran of 494 T20 matches, Ravi Bopara has played nearly every T20 franchise league in the world.
