Sunrisers Hyderabad’s young player Aniket Verma recently went viral after an interview where he was asked an interesting question. Notably, Aniket had to choose the Indian captain he would like to play under. The options were Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Notably, both Virat and Rohit are legendary captains and role models for young cricketers. Many young players dream of playing under their leadership, and they have inspired the next generation of Indian cricket with their performances and leadership qualities.
Rohit Sharma's record as Indian captain
Rohit Sharma has been one of India’s most successful captains in recent years. He has led India in more than 140 matches across all formats and has an impressive win percentage of over 72%.
Under Rohit’s leadership, Indian white-ball cricket changed its approach. The team started playing fearless cricket and focused on attacking gameplay. This approach helped the team build confidence and perform consistently. In ODIs, Rohit captained India in 56 matches and won 42 of them, which gives him a win rate of around 75%.
Rohit achieved many big milestones as captain. He led India to Asia Cup victories in 2018 and 2023. He also guided India to the 2023 World Cup final. Later, India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025 under his leadership.
Virat Kohli’s strong leadership era
On the other hand, Virat Kohli was also an outstanding captain for India. Everyone knows how great he is as a batter, and he was also a very strong leader. He captained India for almost eight years, and during that time the Indian team became stronger in all formats.
Notably, Kohli captained India in 213 matches across formats and won 137 matches. His win percentage of over 64% is one of the best for Indian captains. In Tests, his captaincy record was especially impressive. India won 40 out of 68 Tests under his leadership.
India were very dominant at home during Kohli’s Test captaincy. The team also performed well in overseas tours. India won Test series in Sri Lanka and the West Indies, and one of the biggest highlights was the historic Test series win in Australia in 2018–19.
India also reached the World Test Championship final in the first cycle during his captaincy period.
SRH sensation asked to choose between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma
With both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma having a strong leadership record, it is hard to choose between them.
At first, Aniket Verma was also asked to choose between Kohli and MS Dhoni. Later, the interviewer changed the question to Kohli and Rohit in terms of captaincy. After thinking for a moment, Aniket Verma chose Rohit Sharma.
When he was asked why he did not choose Virat Kohli, he simply replied with one word — “Aggression.” This answer surprised many cricket fans online.

Meanwhile, Aniket Verma has been making a name for himself in the IPL. Last season, he scored 236 runs in 12 innings with an impressive strike rate of over 166. His best score was 74 runs from 41 balls.
This season as well, he started strongly. He scored a quick 43 runs from just 18 balls in the IPL 2026 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
