Few young batters in Pakistan’s current crop possess the effortless stroke-play and natural flair that Saim Ayub brings to the crease. Unfortunately for Pakistan cricket and its fans, the 23-year-old has hit a bit of a rough patch in his career, as he has managed to list just two half-centuries in his last 28 T20I innings.
Moreover, Ayub has even failed to light up the ongoing PSL 2026 season on fire, having aggregated just 25 runs in his two innings so far at a dismal average of 12.50. In a bid to seek out his lost form with the bat, the youngster was recently spotted batting in Lahore amidst intense rains, in a moment captured by his Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne.

The seventh match of the PSL 2026 season, to be played between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, faced an uncertain start owing to heavy rains at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
At the nearby NCCA in the city, Hyderabad Kingsmen players also halted their training session with persistent showers forcing the squad indoors. With nearly every Kingsmen member seeking shelter inside, struggling young opener Saim Ayub batted on and on under the heavy rains.

The cricketer was even spotted hitting the long ball as he belted some exquisite shots during his brave lone-warrior session. The entire moment was fittingly captured by the Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne from a distance, with the Australian batter even sharing the footage on his social media account.

A look at Saim Ayub’s sustained struggles with the bat
Saim Ayub continues to remain an integral member of Pakistan’s starting XI in T20I cricket ever since he made his debut in the format back in March 2023. However, in his last 28 T20I matches for Pakistan since September 2025, the blistering left-handed batter has managed to list just two scores of 50 or more.
The latest of those half-centuries occurred against Australia nearly a couple of months ago in Lahore, when he punched out 56 runs off 37 balls as Pakistan sealed the T20I series 3-0.
In the subsequent 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka, Ayub aggregated just 70 runs in five innings of the tournament at a dismal average of 14. Even in the ongoing PSL 2026 season for the Hyderabad Kingsmen, the 23-year-old was dismissed for just 17 against the Lahore Qalandars, and for eight against the Quetta Gladiators last week in Lahore.
Saim Ayub aims to get back to run-scoring ways in PSL 2026
Under the leadership of Marnus Labuschagne, Saim Ayub is set to receive quite a few opportunities in the Hyderabad Kingsmen set-up to get back to his usual run-scoring ways in the ongoing PSL 2026 season.
As of now, the youngster is gearing up to face an Ashton Turner-led Multan Sultans side in match number eight of the tournament in Lahore on Wednesday, April 1.
