David Warner was arrested by the Maroubra Police in Sydney last month for a ‘drink and drive’ case. The incident occurred in the middle of the PSL 2026 season in Pakistan, when the legendary opening batter made a short Easter trip back home.

Since the incident, Warner looked visibly out of rhythm in the PSL, and he even failed to inspire his troops with the same tenacity as he did in the earlier phase of the tournament.

On top of it all, the cricketer’s lawyer has now described him “foolish” and “reckless” for going on a ride under the influence of alcohol.

David Warner’s lawyer makes huge statement

While speaking with the reporters, David Warner’s lawyer Bobby Hill has issued an official statement regarding the cricketer’s drink and driving case from last month.

The lawyer claimed that while it is completely normal to have a “drink”, Warner’s primary mistake was of not choosing an Uber instead.

Mr. Hill said “He knows what he did was wrong. He accepts that was a reckless decision, a foolish decision to get in his car instead of taking an Uber. It's not a crime to have a glass of wine on the day of the lord's resurrection. In fact, some would consider that completely appropriate. His crime is, as I said, choosing a foolish plan A instead of a plan B.”

David Warner open to punishment, says lawyer

Bobby Hill added that the former Australian opener is expecting to be punished in the same manner as any other New South Wales citizen would be. The lawyer further claimed that the cricketer wants to put their controversy behind him and focus on re-contributing towards the community.

He said “This case before the court is a reminder to everyone in the public about the dangers of self-assessments. I know David is looking forward to putting this matter behind him and focusing his efforts on re-contributing to those people in the community.”

Warner’s case is now scheduled to return to court on June 24 next month.

NSW Chief Executive says allegations “concerning”

Cricket NSW chief executive Lee Germon described the allegations against Warner “concerning” which should be viewed very “seriously”.

He said “The allegations are of course concerning and we take them very seriously. At Cricket NSW, we are strong advocates for safe driving, not drink-driving.”

Impact of Warner’s case on Karachi Kings performance

David Warner started off the PSL 2026 season in Pakistan back in March by leading the Karachi Kings franchise to three successive wins. With a week gap between matches, the legendary Australian opener requested the team management to allow him to fly back home for a while.

That brief return to Sydney eventually proved to be a costly detour for the Karachi Kings, considering the franchise lost each of its next five matches. Overall, the Kings concluded the season with just two additional wins from their remaining seven games to miss a spot in the PSL 2026 playoffs.
