The cricket world was left saddened after the death of former India U-19 and Punjab medium pacer Amanpreet Singh Gill, who passed away in Chandigarh on Wednesday at the age of 36. It is vital to note that the exact cause of his death has not been revealed yet.
"Punjab Cricket Association deeply mourns the sad demise of Amanpreet Singh Gill, former Punjab cricketer and Member, Senior Selection Committee Punjab." the Punjab Cricket Association announced on X.
"Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones. May Waheguru grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family in this difficult time."
Virat Kohli Mourns Death of Former U-19 Teammate
Amanpreet Singh Gill was known for his contribution to Punjab cricket and was also a part of the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) squad during the inaugural season of the IPL.
It is important to note that Amanpreet Singh Gill shared the dressing room with Virat Kohli during their days with the India U-19 team.
After news of his passing surfaced, several cricketers and members of the cricket fraternity expressed their condolences to his family.
Virat Kohli also paid tribute to his former teammate through a heartfelt post on X.
Kohli wrote - "Shocked and saddened to hear about Amanpreet Gill’s passing. Sending prayers and strength to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace. Om Shanti 🙏"

Yuvraj Singh Also Pays Tribute
Along with Virat Kohli, the former Indian star Yuvraj Singh also expressed his condolences to his family.
“Deeply saddened to hear about Amanpreet Singh Gill’s passing. Shared the dressing room in our early days, he was a quiet, hardworking cricketer who loved the game. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace. Om Shanti,” Yuvraj wrote in his post, tagging the Punjab Cricket Association.
After Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, the India's former star batter Shikhar Dhawan also shared a post on X.
He wrote - "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of former Punjab cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill at such a young age 🙏 Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and everyone who knew him. Om Shanti"
Amanpreet Singh Gill's Cricketing Career
Amanpreet Singh Gill played six first-class matches for Punjab and picked up 11 wickets. After his playing career, he also served as a member of Punjab's senior selection committee.
It is important to note here that Amanpreet never attained the limelight; however, he was part of the same generation as Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey.
The Punjab pacer was also part of the IPL. He was with the franchise's setup but never made a name in the regular playing XI for the franchise during the IPL 2008 season.
To pay special tribute to Amanpreet Singh Gill after his sudden death, Punjab Kings players wore black armbands in match 49 between SRH and PBKS of the ongoing IPL 2026.
