In a shocking development, Australia’s legendary batter, David Warner, was charged with drink and driving on Sunday night. The former Australian batter was pulled over in Sydney for a random breath test, and he tested positive.

As a result of this, Warner was arrested by the police and taken into custody at the Maroubra Police Station, where he blew 0.104. He will have to be present in front of the court next month, and the player is unlikely to return to Pakistan for the remainder of the PSL 2026.

Maroubra Police releases official statement on Warner's arrest

After Warner's arrest, police released an official statement and revealed the date of when the Aussie legend will appear in front of the court.

“About 5:30pm today (Sunday 5 April 2026), police were conducting stationary random breath testing on Malabar Road, Maroubra,” the police statement read. “A van was seen to allegedly stop short of the testing site and park. Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command approached the vehicle and subjected the driver – a 39-year-old man – to roadside testing which returned a positive result," as quoted by NDTV.

"He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where a second test allegedly returned a reading of 0.104.

Warner is set to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026.

Warner's PSL 2026 journey in jeopardy

David Warner was appointed the captain of the PSL side, Karachi Kings, and midway through the season, he left the league, as there was a considerable break between two PSL games. Warner wanted to enjoy some leisure time back in Australia, but with fresh charges against him, it is highly unlikely that Warner will go back to further take part in the PSL.

The PCB granted Warner a personal leave due to the fact that his franchise had a few days' gap between two matches, but it seems that PCB could reject such requests in the future.

The Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB could also punish Warner for his serious offence, as the batter left the league midway (a permission that was granted to him), but his misconduct off the field could prompt stricter punishment.

Warner's Karachi Kings dominate the PSL 2026 points table

Before the start of the PSL 2026, Warner was appointed the Karachi Kings captain, as the veteran player had the experience of leading franchises in different T20 leagues.

Warner’s Karachi built a strong core for the ongoing season, and the results were there in front of everyone- three games played, and three dominant wins.

The Karachi Kings started the PSL 2026 by defeating Quetta Gladiators in a riveting battle. It was then followed by the PSL derby as Warner’s Karachi Kings defeated Shaheen Afridi’s Lahore Qalandars to snatch win number two.

Before leaving for Australia, the Karachi Kings thrashed Pindiz in a high-scoring game, and they currently occupy the second spot in the points tally, sitting just behind Multan Sultans.
