All top cricketing forces are oiling their machinary in preparations for the 2027 World Cup. So is the case with Asian giants like India and Bangladesh, who are currently featuring in top flight cricket.
The India-Bangladesh relationship has recently taken a dip, although the BCB is in talks with the BCCI to sort it out.
BCB looking at January 2027 window to host India
Bangladesh pulled out of the 2026 T20 World Cup, co-hosted by India, sending the relationship between the two boards into a nosedive. Since then, a bilateral between the two nations, scheduled in Bangladesh, has been postponed twice.
However, the BCB, led by Tamim Iqbal, is making strong efforts to host the Men in Blue next year in January, ahead of next year’s Asia Cup, which will be hosted in Bangladesh in the build-up to the upcoming World Cup.
The Bangladesh board is looking at the December-January window to host the Men in Blue, as the BPL will not run in the upcoming season due to a betting fiasco.
"We are discussing a window. Given how our discussions with the BCCI are progressing, I am hopeful that the Indian team will come to Bangladesh for the series. Both boards are working with a positive mindset," Tamin Iqbal told a local newspaper as quoted by the BDCrictime.
What are realistic chances for Team India to play Bangladesh?
India are due to travel to Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is. Initially, they were to play the bilateral series in August 2025, but it was postponed due to India's packed calendar.
Since then, the BCB has tried on multiple occasions to find a way to host the Indian side, but geopolitical differences between Bangladesh and India have got in the way.
So far, Team India doesn’t have any open space in their calendar. They are set to face Zimbabwe in the second week of January.
Later that month, they will get busy with a tense Test series against Australia at home. It will be followed by a gruelling season of the Indian Premier League.
Thus, it would be interesting to see how the BCCI accommodates the BCB, if they plan to do so.
