In a significant development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended four individuals, including a domestic cricketer, following a corruption and betting-related investigation linked to the BPL 2025-26 season.

The probe, led by the BCB Integrity Unit, reportedly involves allegations of corrupt conduct, betting activities, obstructing investigations, and failure to cooperate with anti-corruption officials.

BCB suspends former cricketer in BPL scandal

According to reports, BCB’s integrity unit temporarily suspended former Bangladesh domestic cricketer Amit Majumdar and three other franchise officials connected to different teams on suspicion of corruption in the BPL 2025-26 season.

The allegations reportedly include corrupt conduct, involvement in betting activities, not cooperating with investigators and obstructing the inquiry. However, this does not automatically mean guilt has been proven.

The accused, which include Chattogram Royals Logistics Manager Lablur Rahman, Sylhet Titans Manager Rezwan Kabir Siddique, and Noakhali Express co-owner Towhidul Haque, have been given 14 days to respond while the investigation continues.

Who is Amit Majumdar?

That being said, the most surprising name on that suspended officials list is Amit Majumdar. He has had a long domestic career and represented Bangladesh in the U19 2008 and 2010 World Cups.

Despite a long career, he never played for the Bangladesh senior team and mostly played domestic cricket, where Amit accumulated 2428 First-Class runs and 2585 List A runs.

But interestingly, Amit Majumdar never actually played a BPL match. That suggests the investigation may involve off-field activity or franchise connections, not necessarily on-field fixing by a star player.

Overall, this is currently an anti-corruption investigation, not a final verdict. But the allegations are serious because anything linked to betting or fixing threatens the credibility of the BPL and Bangladesh cricket as a whole.

At a time when the league is struggling to stay relevant, such allegations only adds to the damage that has been already done.

BCB releases exclusion order against Saminur Rahman

Apart from the five suspensions, BCB also passed an exclusion order against Saminur Rahman, a key official associated with Chattogram Royals

That is stronger than a temporary suspension, as it means BCB has formally banned him from cricket-related involvement under its integrity rules.

Unlike the other accused individuals, Rahman reportedly accepted the sanction and waived his right to defend himself or contest the allegations. That suggests that he will either cooperate with investigators or accept that the evidence was substantial.

Overall, the BPL has come under heavy scrutiny as allegations of fixing and corruption have surfaced in almost every season. The league is losing its credibility, and BCB, under the new leadership of Tamim Iqbal, are hell bent on revising the tournament.

But for them, corruption has to be booted out completely, and for that, the Integrity Unite is working tirelessly behind the scenes.
