In a massive development, Lahore Qalandars are set to have former Australian seamer Shaun Tait as the head coach for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2027).
Lahore Qalandars' director Sameen Rana announced on Thursday on a podcast about the massive change in the backroom staff.
Shaun Tait replaces Russell Domingo as Lahore Qalandars' head coach
Shaun Tait, who also served as Pakistan's fast bowling coach, replaces the South African coach, Russell Domingo, as Lahore Qalandars' head coach.
The Aussie coach was named Lahore's head coach for the Global Super League (GSL 2026), and has now been promoted to lead the coaching crew in the PSL.
"He will continue, yeah. We had an agreement with him during the GSL. We had told him to be our head coach in GSL 2026 itself," Sameen Rana stated.
Tait has a strong connection to Pakistan, having served as a fast-bowling coach under Saqlain Mushtaq in 2022-23. He also served in the same role with Quetta Gladiators in the PSL 2023.
Recently, he served as Bangladesh’s fast bowling coach, where his coaching helped unearth the potential of Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Can Lahore Qalandars make a turnaround in PSL 2027 under Shaun Tait?
Shaun Tait, a renowned speedster of his time, will be a perfect addition to the Lahore Qalandars’ mix, led brilliantly by Shaheen Afridi.
Under Afridi, the team not only won all three PSL titles but also built a fast-bowling-heavy line-up, with Haris Rauf playing a massive role alongside his skipper.
The trend remained the same last season, with the likes of Shaheen, Haris and Ubaid Shah bowling exceptionally well in phases. However, their contributions didn't translate into match-winning spells, as they failed to reach the playoffs.
As the PSL 2027 auction is scheduled for January 23 next year, Shaun Tait would get ample time to make a solid blueprint for the team’s success next season.
