Mike Hussey, who was removed from CSK’s newly formed coaching staff for IPL 2027, will work as Australia’s consultant coach for some of the crucial ICC events as well as bilateral assignments and other global tournaments.

Cricket Australia (CA) announced that Hussey’s primary major assignments as Australia’s consultant coach would be to guide the squad during The Ashes 2027 and the World Cup 2027. He will also be there with the Australian squad and the coaching staff when the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 and the T20 World Cup 2028 are held.

Hussey Set For Immediate Start With England White-Ball Series

Australia and England will play five T20Is in Australia from November 21 to December 2. They will also have three ODIs on November 13, 15 and 18, respectively. Hussey will join the squad to provide coaching support.

“I am extremely excited about being a part of the team in a more formal and meaningful role in the coming years," Hussey said in a statement.

“This team has achieved so much in recent times, to which I hope I can add value to the coaching and playing groups ahead of what will be an exciting and challenging period," he added.

Mike Hussey's CV As Coach

Hussey was on Matthew Mott's coaching panel for Australia when they hosted the 2022 T20 World Cup.

He spent time with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), first as a player and later as the batting coach under Stephen Fleming. He was with Welsh Fire as well during The Hundred 2026.

“Mike has been a highly valued part of our staff in the past and brings a considerable skill set which is complementary to the coaches and players," McDonald said in a statement.

“Not only is his expertise as a player and coach across multiple formats, competitions, countries invaluable, so are his qualities as a person," he added.

It will be interesting to see how Australia perform under Hussey’s guidance. They have been playing quite poorly of late, and thus, need significant improvement to get back to their usual best.
