IND vs ENG 3.0 in T20 World Cup semi-finals loading [Source: @T20WorldCup/x]
Team India and England cricket teams will be crossing paths in semifinal number two of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Mumbai on March 5. The occasion will mark their third successive semi-final meeting in a T20 World Cup after Adelaide 2022 and Providence 2024.
Incidentally, the winner of the past two India vs England semi-finals also went on to clinch the T20 World title, with both sides bagging their second respective silverware in the format.
As both teams gear up to complete a trilogy at the summit, here is a look at all survivors from the past two showpiece events who will be carrying the weight of history into yet another India vs England T20 World Cup semifinal.
From 2022 to 2026: India vs England players who have seen it all
1. Harry Brook (England)
A 23-year-old still finding his footing in international cricket, Harry Brook was part of England’s 15-man squad that travelled to Australia for the 2022 T20 World Cup. While he managed just 56 runs across five innings in England’s title-winning campaign, the then-youngster assumed a far more influential role in steering his side to the semifinals two years later in the Caribbean.
Fast forward to March 2026, and Brook now finds himself as the leader of the pack, as yet another World Cup final beckons for the Englishmen.
2. Suryakumar Yadav (India)
Much like Harry Brook, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav also spent the previous two T20 World Cups surrounded by veterans of the game. Giving his all in 2022 with crucial knocks against South Africa and Zimbabwe, the cricketer followed it up with a couple of quick innings and a sensational boundary catch in the 2024 final as the ‘Men in Blue’ successfully quenched their trophy drought.
Much like the past two editions, Suryakumar continues to constitute a formidable member of India’s middle order and will be one of the players to watch out for in the impending semifinal.
3. Sam Curran (England)
A ‘Player of the Tournament’ in 2022 triumph and virtually a member of 2024’s ‘Flop XI’ two years later, all-rounder Sam Curran has experienced the extreme highs and lows of England’s recent T20 World Cup campaigns.
A regular member of England’s current XI in India, Curran now stands at a crossroads, with the IND vs ENG semifinal offering him a timely shot at redemption.
4. Hardik Pandya (India)
Hardik Pandya was India’s lone wolf in their 10-wicket defeat to England in the 2022 semifinal, raining down a fiery 33-ball 63 in Adelaide before bowlers failed to pick up a wicket. A couple of years later, the seasoned all-rounder played a pivotal role throughout the 2024 campaign as India went on to clinch the world title in the Caribbean.
One of the architects of India’s drought-ending triumph, Pandya will be eager to lead his side to a successful title-defense in front of a home crowd.
5. Jos Buttler (England)
Jos Buttler was the captain of the England team that lifted the 2022 T20 World Cup on Australian soil. In the semi-final against England, the vintage opener blasted an unbeaten 80 off just 49 balls during his record-shattering 170-run partnership with Alex Hales.
A reasonable outing with the bat in the 2024 edition was offset by underwhelming returns as captain, as England’s juggernaut was halted in the semifinal by their age-old rivals.
Prepping for India vs England 3.0 in the semifinals on possibly in his final T20 World Cup hurrah, Buttler will be aiming to put his recent batting struggles behind him and steer his side past the finish line.
6. Axar Patel (India)
From a wicketless Adelaide nightmare in 2022 to a ‘Player of the Match’ performance in Providence 2024, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel truly completed a full circle against England in ‘T20 World Cup semi-finals’ within a span of two years. Yet to light up the ongoing 2026 edition with the same tenacity he displayed a couple of years ago, Patel will be eager to rise to the occasion once again on the big stage.

7. Adil Rashid (England)
England’s spin extraordinaire Adil Rashid poses just as great a threat on subcontinental surfaces as some of the best Indian spinners. While he picked up just four wickets in England’s 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, the wily leg-spinner seemingly reserved his best for the semi-final summit against India, dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and conceding just 20 runs off his four overs.
Even though England lost the 2024 semi-final against India, Rashid conceded just 25 off his four overs and claimed the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma in an otherwise high-scoring innings.
8. Arshdeep Singh (India)
Indian pace merchant Arshdeep Singh led his team’s bowling charge in 2022, and scalped the joint-highest number of wickets in the triumph of 2024. Back as the leader of the Indian pace attack and bowling in tandem with Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep still has a score to settle with England after his wicketless outings against them in the past two T20 World Cup semi-finals.
9. Phil Salt (England)
With just two appearances in the playing XI, Phil Salt had little-to-no role in England’s historic T20 World Cup win in 2022. In 2024, the hard-hitting opener bludgeoned 188 runs at a staggering strike rate of nearly 160, but failed to go big in the semi-final against India.
Struggling for runs in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup, the 29-year-old now has the opportunity to script a dramatic turnaround on the biggest stage and rediscover his touch when it matters most.
To sum up, only four Indians and five Englishmen remain as survivors from the last two IND vs ENG semifinal showdowns, now entrusted with shaping possibly the final chapter of this rare cricketing trilogy.
Each player will carry his own story to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5, with some chasing redemption, others guarding legacy; but all standing one win away from defining their place in this enduring saga.
