How the four semifinalists have fared in the T20 World Cup 2026
South Africa
Even before the tournament started, the Proteas were considered one of the favourites to at least reach the semis, and they did exactly that. In the World Cup, they have been the only undefeated team as the Aiden Markram-led side has been on a rampage.
South Africa ended the group stage with four wins out of four as they defeated New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada, and the UAE. Surprisingly, the only challenge they faced was against the Afghans as the match was decided after two Super overs.
In the Super 8s, the team defeated India, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies to win seven in a row and reach the semifinal.
India
India were the defending champions and firm favourites to clinch the trophy yet again. However, the team got a reality check as the USA pushed them to their limits. The Indian team then dismantled Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands to book their Super 8 berth.
However, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side was brought down to Earth by the South African side as the Proteas clinched a one-sided match. India needed to beat Zimbabwe and the West Indies to reach the semis, and the side eventually attained its target to qualify for the next round.
England
England had a topsy-turvy journey in the T20 World Cup as the side barely defeated the likes of Italy, and Nepal, and also lost against the West Indies to finish second in their group. However, the turnaround took place in the Super 8s.
England was placed in a tricky group alongside Pakistan, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, and guess what, the Three Lions defeated all three to become the first semifinalists. The highlight of their campaign has been the clinical Harry Brook chase against Pakistan.
New Zealand
New Zealand was placed alongside South Africa, Canada, UAE, and Afghanistan in their group, and while the Kiwis thrashed everyone, they struggled against South Africa. The Proteas gave them a reality check as the Rainbow Nation thrashed them in a one-sided affair.
In the Super 8s, the Black Caps faced off against Pakistan, but that game got abandoned. In their next match, the Kiwis defeated Sri Lanka, but they lost against England in the final Super 8 match. However, they reached the semis, courtesy of their superior net run-rate.
