"GOAT In His Kingdom": RCB Fans Rejoice Virat Kohli Presence In Chinnaswamy

To the relief of RCB fans, the home ground of the Rajat Patidar-led franchise is set to be the Chinnaswamy Stadium. With earlier developments hinting at a ban on the stadium because of the tragic stampede during the IPL 2025 victory parade, it has now been cleared to host seven matches in total.

As per a recent report from India Today, the stadium has been cleared to host five home games for RCB, along with a playoff and the final match, which also includes the season opener for Bengaluru.

RCB’s Fight For Chinnaswamy After the Stampede Tragedy

Following the team’s maiden IPL title win in 2025, a massive victory parade was arranged near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a tragic stampede occurred. It resulted in 11 deaths and multiple injuries, with the stadium immediately being marked unsafe for large gatherings.

A blanket ban was imposed, and hosting rights for high-level cricket matches were deferred from the venue. Later in July, a commission was formed to investigate the incident.

After multiple sittings on safety recommendations and structural integrity to permit large gatherings, the Karnataka government lifted the total ban on December 13, granting conditional permission for a limited return of cricket with restricted attendance.

However, the franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru aka RCB, were not ready to accept restrictions and play matches under limited capacity. In the most recent report from early February, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, led by President Venkatesh Prasad, pushed for a full return, while Bengaluru remained hesitant, demanding unconditional clearance.

This seems to have broken the deadlock, as the cabinet finally approved hosting IPL 2026 matches at the stadium, confirming adherence to the commission report's safety norms.

Fan Frenzy Shrouds The Internet After Chinnaswamy Return

This return of Bengaluru to their home has sparked messages and frenzy on the internet, where netizens, especially RCB fans, largely appreciated and celebrated the homecoming. They will now be able to watch their favourite stars again without the cloud of uncertainty that had lingered since June 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru took to their official social media handle to announce the major update, confirming that five home games will be played at the Chinnaswamy while two matches will be held in Raipur, which will act as their secondary home base for the season.

With netizens welcoming the news, reactions have flooded social media platforms:

Massive Upgradation In Security Measures Demanded

It is to be noted that although Chinnaswamy has been restored to its original crowd capacity, several security conditions and requirements have been put in place by both the government and the franchise.

Major structural changes have been implemented, with gate widening being one of the primary demands. The gates will be increased in both height and width. Across all entry and exit points, 300 to 350 AI-enabled cameras will be installed for real-time crowd monitoring.

Seating capacity will also be strictly monitored to prevent ticket evaders, with stricter ticketing systems and regulated access to manage crowd density.

The Restoration Of Home

The restoration of Chinnaswamy also marks a revival of the team's identity and emotional bond with its supporters. The spiritual home of RCB, as described by CEO Rajesh Menon, comes alive again with the team set to play their inaugural clash against Punjab Kings at the same venue for IPL 2026.

Chinnaswamy has long been considered the 12th man for the team because of its electric atmosphere. A total of 35,000 fans are expected to return to the stands to provide the boost that the team, starring Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and others, need.

More significantly, the familiarity of the pitch, with its shorter boundaries and high-scoring nature, will act as a catalyst for RCB's aggressive playing style, further boosting their chances of another title win this season.
