Virat Kohli To MS Dhoni: If Indian Cricketers Were Dhurandhar Characters, Who Will Play Hamza?

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2 has taken the world of entertainment by storm, not only for its storyline and direction but also for its perfectly depicted characters. The frenzy comes only a few days before the start of the carnival of cricket in India, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026).

The buzz around the two events has left people wondering, ‘What if Indian cricketers were Dhurandhar characters?’ That being said, in this article, let’s explore an unexpected but equally enticing crossover of cricket and Dhurandhar (without any spoilers!).

If Indian cricketers were Dhurandhar characters, here's how it'll look

Rahul Dravid as Ajay Sanyal

Undoubtedly, Ajay Sanyal is the brain behind the mission ‘Dhurandhar’. Played by R Madhavan, Sanyal is calm to his core even under the toughest crisis, and is equally strategic. In the movie, he recruits Ranveer Singh’s character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, to portray Hamza for the highly secretive mission.

Similarly, the former India head coach Rahul Dravid, during his time in the role, worked around and experimented with different talents for the perfect roles in the Indian Cricket Team

For instance, between 2022 and 2024, Dravid displayed immense trust in a rookie Arshdeep Singh as the second frontline bowler in white-ball cricket, who then went on to become the highest wicket-taker in T20Is for India.

If Indian cricket were an operation, Rahul Dravid would absolutely be running it from behind the scenes. It is also worth noting that under his leadership, the ICT won an ICC trophy in 2024 after a 11-year hiatus.

Virender Sehwag as Jameel Jamali

As soon as Jamali entered the scene, the theatre hall erupted in laughter. Just like him, former Indian cricketer and one of the wittiest people in interviews and as a commentator, Virender Sehwag brings humour and quirkiness into a dark world.

In the movie, Jamali is seen balancing Rehman Dakait and SP Aslam to save his chair. Sehwag used to bring the same charm with his batting. He would fearlessly take attacks and not let them settle in. Even after retirement, his supreme self-confidence and carefree attitude can be seen as a commentator.

Shubman Gill as Uzair Baloch

Rehman Dakait’s younger brother, Uzair, is his loyal right-hand man with a sharp, calculated, and always-ready-to-step-up approach when the big boss needs him. The Prince of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill, mirrors this in a miraculous way.

In Dhurandhar 2, after Rehman’s demise, Uzair stepped up, mirroring reality. After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirements, Gill took the charge. At just 26, he is considered one of the senior members of the ICT and the new generation superstar who is following in Virat Kohli’s footsteps.

Additionally, post the release of the movie, actor Danish Pandor became the national crush for his handsome looks, similar to Shubman Gill’s aura among the national population.

Hardik Pandya as Major Iqbal

Major Iqbal, is the central antagonist played by Arjun Rampal, is portrayed as a cold, strategic planner. His brutality sends shockwaves among everyone who watched the movie.

Similarly, Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya is defined by his immense self-belief, "main character" swagger, and resilience, evolving from a struggling youngster into a crucial, high-pressure match-winner for his team.

Known for his aggressive batting, clutch bowling, and brilliant fielding, he is a key, versatile all-rounder who thrives on pressure, often delivering in crucial ICC tournaments.

Ravi Shastri as SP Chaudhary Aslam

Played by Sanjay Dutt, SP Chaudhary Aslam storms into a crime scene with fire-in-the-eyes, no-nonsense, bulldozer energy. If there’s one person from Indian cricket that displays the same aura, it has to be Ravi Shastri.

Remember when Virat Kohli advised everyone to prevent the use of water in Holi celebrations, and Ravi Shastri, unapologetically said, “Use whatever you want”.

Thus, Ravi Shastri perfectly reflects Aslam, the fearless encounter specialist, someone who faces dangerous Rehman Dakait head-on to kill him.

MS Dhoni as Rahman Dakait

Rahman Dakait, played by Akshaye Khanna, is the man whose aura walks into a room five seconds before he does. His dance evidently became a viral sensation across the country.

And if one wants to experience the same level of aura, one should watch MS Dhoni enter to bat in the IPL. The cheers are deafening and the aura is unmatched.

Moreover, both command loyalty for their community and country, Balochistan in the case of Rahman and India in the case of MS Dhoni. And both have a rare quality where they speak softly, and people get more scared than if they shouted.

Smriti Mandhana as Yalina

The face of Indian cricket, Smriti Mandhana, is known for her breathtaking yet effortless beauty. In the movie, Yalina is characterised as a sleeping assassin and if nudged, can turn heads.

Similarly, Mandhana looks sweet and gentle, but once she enters the field, she commands dominance and mental fortitude under pressure.

The wait is over!!!

Virat Kohli as Hamza Ali Mazari

Hamza Ali Mazari, immaculately played by Ranveer Singh, is the main hero. And indeed, the hero of Indian Cricket is Virat Kohli! Both are weighed down by the heavy burden of high expectations from the country.

Even when things go against his plan, Hamza improvises his plans and makes his presence felt. Chase master Virat Kohli throughout his career has done the same and is still doing so.

Similar to the pre and post-26/11 Hamza, when a persistent dip in form made the critics question his mettle, Virat Kohli, instead of looking back, stepped up and reinvented himself to unleash the most brutal version of himself.

Moreover, both carry the “main sambhaal lunga” confidence that makes them standout characters in both the universe.
