Held on Sunday, the BCCI Naman Awards brought the highest achievers of Indian cricket together as the board honoured both current stars and legendary players for their contributions. Attended by many players from the men’s team, the women’s team, and the under-19 team, alongside BCCI officials, the event garnered massive attention.

However, amid the celebrations of cricketing luminaries, fans were quick to notice a few blunders by the event’s official broadcasters and organisers.

What is Shubman Gill Champions Trophy Error?

Notably, three players from each of the victorious senior teams were invited on stage for a chat with Harsha Bhogle. Harmanpreet Kaur and Suryakumar Yadav came up on stage as the captains of the Indian team, which lifted the 2025 Women's World Cup and 2026 Men's T20 World Cup, respectively.

While Shubman Gill, the vice-captain of the 2025 Champions Trophy-winning team as well as India's current ODI and Test team, joined in. Rohit Sharma, who had led India to victory in the mega event last year, did not attend the ceremony.

Amid the many errors, what drew significant attention was Gill's response when asked about India’s Champions Trophy victory. The on-screen graphics incorrectly displayed his designation as the title ‘Winning Captain, ICC Champions Trophy 2025’.

It is worth noting that India clinched the coveted Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating New Zealand in the final, under the astute leadership of Rohit Sharma. Gill was a part of the squad. The opener batter was later promoted as the new ODI captain on October 4, 2025.

Netizens sharply noticed the mistake and were quick to notice the error, which prompted the BCCI to remove the clip from the official handle.

Another major blunder by the BCCI’s event organiser

While the U19 women's team, which won the big prize in 2025 under Nikki Prasad's captaincy, walked to the stage, cricket fans were quick to notice that the graphic on the stage displayed an image of the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side lifting the Women's Cricket World Cup last year

Gill enjoyed a stellar 2025 and established himself as one of the team's most dependable batters in the longer formats.

"Firstly, thank you to the BCCI for recognising me with this award. Many greats and legends of Indian cricket have received it before, so it is a huge honour for me to be here. What we as an Indian cricket group were able to achieve last year was truly tremendous - five ICC trophies, something I don't think has ever happened before," Gill said.

"I want to thank my teammates because none of this would have been possible without them. I would also like to thank my parents and family members for helping me reach where I am today. Thank you once again," Gill added.

On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana was named the Best International Cricketer (Women) for a record 5th time. Other notable winners included Harshit Rana and N. Sree Charani, who took home the Best International Debut awards. Domestic cricket was also spotlighted, with Vidarbha’s Harsh Dubey and Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre recognized for their all-round excellence.
