Just when you thought Nitish Kumar Reddy was injury-free and would cement his position as India’s premium all-rounder, the player suffered yet another massive blow just before the Ireland and England T20I matches.
Nitish Reddy sustained a quadricep injury during the second ODI against Afghanistan recently, and it requires immediate attention as the all-rounder could be sidelined for two to three weeks.
With Hardik Pandya ruled out, NKR had the chance to grab the all-rounder’s spot in the Indian side, but it seems he has to first work hard on his fitness as the star player is unlikely to take part in the England tour as well.
This is not the first time the Visakhapatnam-born player has sustained an injury right before a crucial series. It has happened before as well, and in this piece, we take a look at NKR’s injury timeline, and the number of blows he has suffered since making his India debut.
Nitish Kumar Reddy injury timeline explained
January 2025- side strain
After a successful Test debut in Australia, Nitish Reddy was set to become an integral part of the white-ball squads, but right before the series against England in January 2025, he sustained a side strain after the first T2OI of the tour.
The all-rounder missed the entire Champions Trophy campaign, and straightaway returned to play in the IPL 2025 for SRH.
July 2025- Knee injury
NKR was picked in the Indian Test squad for the England tour, and after playing in the second and third Test, disaster struck as the all-rounder injured his knee during a gym session and he suffered a ligament tear.
The BCCI called him back, and he was sent to the CoE as the Andhra Pradesh player missed the remainder of the series and also the Asia Cup event.
October 2025- Quadriceps injury
Nitish Kumar Reddy made a successful return, but once again, his luck ran out in the away ODI series against Australia in October 2025. He was picked in India’s white-ball squads against Australia, but during the second ODI, he was injured again.
He sustained a quad injury in the second ODI, and was subsequently ruled out of the entire tour as another rehabilitation program began for him.
October 2025- Neck spasm
Interestingly, after the quad injury, NKR was supposed to make a comeback in the T20Is against the same opposition, but during his rehabilitation, the all-rounder complained of a neck spasm, and he was omitted from the first three T20I matches.

June 2026- Quadriceps injury
Nitish Kumar Reddy had a successful IPL 2026, and he had a solid series against Afghanistan as well. As a result, he was picked in the India squad for the Ireland T2OI series.
However, in the second ODI in Lucknow against Afghanistan, the all-rounder once again injured his quadricep. He was expected to be fit for the Ireland tour, but days before the first T2OI, the BCCI ruled him out of the series.
Nitish Kumar Reddy's uncertain for England tour
Not only for the Ireland tour, but the 23-year-old was also picked for the England tour, which follows the Ireland series. The first match of the series begins on July 1, and NKR is uncertain for the England games as well.
A quad injury, if serious, takes time to heal, and his tentative recovery period is 2-3 weeks. As a result, the BCCI has reportedly finalised Suryansh Shedge as Nitish Reddy’s replacement in the T20I squads.
