The stage is set for a riveting T20I clash as a new-look India will take on Ireland before the England series commences. The Men in Blue recently defeated Afghanistan in the ODIs, and they'll be oozing with confidence heading into the Ireland matches.

India has named a strong squad for the Ireland matches, with a full-strength side touring the European nation. However, with the India vs Ireland T2OI matches just a few days away, the visitors have plenty of headaches.

Most of them are positive headaches for the Indian team management, but the Gautam-Gambhir-led coaching department needs to address them before the mega series commences in a few days' time.

Here are the major talking points India needs to address before the Ireland T2OI matches.

1) Who will Sooryavanshi replace if he debuts for India?

In all likelihood, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old star, will make his India debut in the T2OI series against Ireland. However, the question arises: Who will he replace in the lineup? Ishan Kishan will play at number 3, and the two openers are Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma.

If Sooryavanshi is to make his India debut, one of Abhishek or Samson has to make way for him. Logically, Abhishek is irreplaceable as the southpaw has been the best batter in the world for the last two years, and India would love to have him pair with the 15-year-old.

On the other hand, Samson was awarded the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2026, and he also had a stellar IPL 2026 campaign, playing for CSK. Both openers are in tremendous form, so who goes out for Sooryavanshi will be the biggest headache heading into the Ireland games.

2) Washington Sundar or Axar Patel? Who gets a nod in playing XI

The two spin-bowling all-rounder in the Indian squad are Washington Sundar and Axar Patel. However, judging by the seaming conditions in Ireland, only one can play in the playing XI.

Sundar had a better IPL as a batter than Axar Patel, who flopped big time. On the other hand, Sundar hardly bowled in the IPL 2026, while Axar was average with the ball.

Hence, the question arises: Who should play in the main XI for India? Logically, if India needs a better batter and a solid middle-overs bowler, then Axar is the option for the management. He has proven his worth for India and will be a solid choice for the team and a clear upgrade over Sundar.

3) Will India go in with tried and tested pace option, or will Prince Yadav get a nod?

Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, and Prince Yadav are the pacers India have picked for the Ireland T20I matches. Three of the four fast bowlers have played for India in T20Is, and each of them has a problem of their own.

Harshit Rana has been out of the Indian team due to an injury, and he’ll be making his return in the Indian squad in the Ireland tour. The tearaway pacer will be rusty after the injury, and India might not bank on him instantly. Similarly, Siraj has blown hot and cold in this format, while Arshdeep has been out of colours since the start of IPL 2026.

Hence, the Indian management might want to give Prince Yadav his debut T20I cap. The pacer was outstanding in the IPL 2026, and he deserves a chance to play in the Ireland T2OIs.

However, the big question once again comes up: Will India play the tried and tested bowlers, or will a young gun finally get his much-awaited T2OI debut?
