Injuries are become a constant for Team India ahead of any big tour. In a major development, Nitish Kumar Reddy may not be available for the tour of the United Kingdom, starting later this week.

Reportedly, the Indian all-rounder will miss the two T20Is against Ireland and 3 T20Is & 3 ODIs vs England due to a left quadricep injury, which has reportedly aggravated.

Reddy missed the second ODI against Afghanistan because of a sore left thigh, before returning for the final match, where he just bowled six overs. Notably, he was named in both Test and ODI squad, but only featured in two matches.

Nitish Kumar Reddy to miss UK tour

As reported by PTI, Nitish Kumar Reddy will miss the series against Ireland and England, where he is named in both ODI and T20I squad.

"Nitish Reddy's left quadriceps injury has aggravated. He is out of UK Tour. Rehab will take some time," reported by PTI's Kushan Sarkar.

The BCCI, meanwhile, is trying to groom a backup for Hardik Pandya, who has a long history of injuries.

After a dull IPL 2026, the veteran all-rounder missed the three ODIs against Afghanistan due to a series of injuries. He is currently working on his rehabilitation with the BCCI medical team, but won't be available for the entire UK tour. Thus, Reddy was picked as a sole fast-bowling all-rounder.

Nitish Kumar Reddy is a trusted batter, though his medium pace bowling is still a 'work-in-progress'. However, injuries won't help his cause either, as he is seen as a three-format prospect.

Suryansh Shedge set to replace Nitish Kumar Reddy

Moreover, it has been reported by the Times of India, Suryansh Shedge, who recently made waves playing for Punjab Kings, will replace the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy.

After his power-packed cameos in IPL 2026, the Mumbai all-rounder bagged all the limelight during the Tri-Series 2026 involving Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, featuring for India A, where he racked up 149 runs in five innings, along side two wickets.

Notably, if picked, it will be the maiden India call-up for the 23-year-old all-rounder from Mumbai, who bats flashily in the middle order and can bowl medium pace part-time.

In his brief domestic career, the all-rounder has played just 15 List-A and 30 T20 matches, notching 614 runs and scalping 24 wickets at decent numbers. He was also an integral part of the Mumbai squad that won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2025.

What can India expect from UK tour?

Team India will begin its UK tour with two T20Is against Ireland, where Shreyas Iyer will lead the Men in Blue for the first time. After Ireland, the Indian caravan will fly out to England for three T20Is and as many ODIs, where Shubman Gill will lead a star-studded unit.

Although India will play five matches in the shortest format on the UK tour, the main aim for the visitors will be to finalise a blueprint for the World Cup 2027.

However, India may miss a quality seam-bowling all-rounder on the important tour.
