Cricket may be a full-time profession, but several Indian cricketers have also been honoured with prestigious government jobs for their contribution to the sport. These appointments not only recognise their achievements on the field but also provide them with an opportunity to serve the country beyond cricket.

The latest name to grab attention is Ishan Kishan, who was recently spotted performing his duties as an Assistant Manager at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Patna. 

The wicketkeeper-batter secured the position through the sports quota, joining a long list of Indian cricketers who have balanced their sporting careers with important roles in government departments. Here's a look at some of the biggest names.

Three of India's greatest cricketers have also received honorary military ranks for their contribution to the nation. Kapil Dev was conferred the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Army in 2008. 

Sachin Tendulkar became the first sportsperson without an aviation background to receive the honorary rank of Group Captain in the Indian Air Force in 2010. 

MS Dhoni, known for his passion for the armed forces, was awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2011 and has actively participated in military training on multiple occasions.

1. Ishan Kishan – Assistant Manager, Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

Ishan Kishan recently went viral after being spotted at the Reserve Bank of India office in Patna wearing formal attire and an RBI identity card. The left-handed batter serves as an Assistant Manager after securing the appointment through the sports quota.

Like several elite Indian athletes, Kishan's role primarily recognises his contribution to Indian cricket while allowing him to continue representing the country. His appointment makes him one of the latest Indian cricketers to hold a prestigious government position alongside his playing career.

2. KL Rahul – Assistant Manager, Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

KL Rahul is another Indian cricketer associated with the Reserve Bank of India. The stylish wicketkeeper-batter was appointed as an Assistant Manager under the RBI's sports quota initiative.

His appointment came during RBI's youth engagement programme, with then Deputy Governor SS Mundhra playing a key role in promoting sportspersons within the institution. 3. Yuzvendra Chahal – Income Tax Officer

Yuzvendra Chahal has been serving as an Income Tax Officer since 2018 after receiving the appointment through the sports quota. The leg-spinner joined the Income Tax Department at the peak of his international career.

4. Mohammed Siraj – Deputy Superintendent of Police (Telangana Police)

Mohammed Siraj became popularly known as "DSP Siraj" after being appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Telangana government following India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.

The Group-I police appointment was one of the state's highest honours for the Hyderabad pacer. Along with the prestigious post, the Telangana government also allotted Siraj a residential plot in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cricket.

5. Mukesh Kumar – Deputy Superintendent of Police (Bihar Police)

Indian women's team captain Harmanpreet Kaur holds the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Punjab Police. She received the honour after years of consistently leading India on the international stage.

9. Deepti Sharma – Deputy Superintendent of Police (Uttar Pradesh Police)

Star all-rounder Deepti Sharma was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Uttar Pradesh government following her remarkable performances for India across all formats.

The appointment honoured Deepti's consistent contribution to Indian women's cricket and recognised her as one of the country's finest all-rounders. She joined an elite group of Indian women athletes who have been rewarded with prestigious government roles for their sporting excellence.

10. Richa Ghosh – Deputy Superintendent of Police (West Bengal Police)

Richa Ghosh was appointed as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the West Bengal government following India's triumph at the 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup. The Siliguri-born wicketkeeper-batter officially assumed charge on December 3, 2025, wearing the police uniform for the first time.

She was posted as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) under the Siliguri Police Commissionerate, becoming one of the youngest Indian cricketers to receive such a prestigious government appointment.
