Jos Buttler has climbed to the top of a huge list in T20 cricket. The legendary England opener recently blasted 51* off just 20 balls for the Manchester Super Giants franchise in match number 21 of The Hundred 2026 season.

Batting at number three, the skipper launched six huge sixes and two boundaries against Welsh Fire at Old Trafford in Manchester. 

His innings not only brought the Super Giants back into contention this Hundred 2026 season, but also catapulted Buttler in an elite run-scoring charts in the shortest and most exhilarating form of the game.

Jos Buttler on top of the world in T20 cricket

Jos Buttler fired 51* off just 20 balls in match 21 of The Hundred 2026 season in Manchester against the Welsh Fire. His innings helped him surpass West Indies great and T20 behemoth Kieron Pollard in terms of aggregating the highest number of runs in the shortest format of the game.

While Pollard is currently sitting on an illustrious tally of 14,803 runs in 663 T20 innings, Buttler has now raced to 14,833* runs with his latest match-winning half-century. Here is a look at five of the world’s leading run-makers in T20 history.

Apart from becoming the leading run-maker in the history of T20 cricket, Jos Buttler also hammered his 106th half-century in the format. Moreover, the senior batter has now extended his tally of total number of 50-plus scores in T20s to 115. 

As of now, he is only trailing behind Indian run machine Virat Kohli and legendary Australian opener David Warner in terms of notching up the highest number of 50-plus scores in 20-overs cricket. While Virat Kohli has charted 120 scores of more than 50 runs, Warner sits at the top of the all-time list with 128 of such scores.

With age on Buttler’s side, the 35-year-old will fancy himself to surpass the two batting behemoths in this illustrious list.

A look at Jos Buttler’s career

Jos Buttler made his T20 debut way back in 2009 during the Champions League T20 2009 season in India. To date, he has played 522 matches in his career, aggregating 14,833 runs at a prolific average of 36 with nine hundreds and 106 fifties.

Apart from leading the overall run-scoring charts in T20 cricket, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter is also the third highest run-maker in T20Is, and is England’s most successful batter by a landslide. 

In internationals alone, Buttler has minted 4,212 runs in 147 innings at an average of 33.96. He was the captain of the England team that lifted the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, and motored his side to a comprehensive win in the semifinal of the tournament against India.
