Pakistan blanked West Indies in the second Test to level the two-match series 1-1 in the Caribbean. The outcome also marked Pakistan’s only second Test victory in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle

Following the four-day cracker between West Indies and Pakistan in Port of Spain, here is a look at the updated points table of the 2025-27 WTC.

Pakistan climbs a spot to evade bottom finish after series

The Pakistan cricket team has spent much duration of the ongoing 2025-27 WTC cycle at the bottom of the nine-team points table. By defeating West Indies in the series-decider at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, the ‘Men in Green’ have now gained a rung to occupy eighth position on the standings. 

Under the leadership of returning captain Babar Azam, Pakistan also significantly improved its PCT with their latest triumph. After slipping to a dismal PCT of 6.67 after last week’s defeat in Tarouba, the Pakistan cricket team is now holding a fairly improved PCT of 22.22.

West Indies slip to the bottom

Hosts West Indies, holding a PCT of 22.73 before the series-decider in Port of Spain, have now slipped to the bottom of the nine-team WTC 2025-27 points table. Their PCT have now plunged down to 20.83, which is worse than even Pakistan’s 22.22 considering the latter recently evaded their ‘wooden spoon’, at least for the time being.

However, unlike Pakistan, the West Indies cricket team have also played way more matches in the 2025-27 WTC cycle. In 12 Tests spanning five different series so far, the ‘Men from the Caribbean’ have sustained eight losses and two draws, with the delight of just two wins. 

The top seven slots of the nine-team WTC 2025-27 standings pretty much remains the same, with Australia occupying the top slot and they are followed by defending champions South Africa at number two.

How can West Indies and Pakistan qualify for WTC 2025-27 final

For Pakistan to even entertain thoughts of securing a top two finish before the WTC 2025-27 final, they need to win each of their remaining three Test series with emphatic margins. However, Pakistan’s most immediate challenge lies in testing English conditions this month, before they will host Sri Lanka in November and New Zealand next year in March. 

West Indies, on the other hand, only has two more Tests remaining in the bank in the form of a Bangladesh tour this October. Currently dwelling at the bottom, it is safe to say that West Indies’ WTC 2025-27 ambitions have been already quashed with their recent string of defeats. 

How West Indies and Pakistan have fared across all WTC cycles

Neither West Indies nor Pakistan have managed to qualify for a WTC final so far after its three editions. Moreover, Pakistan’s best finish occurred in the inaugural WTC edition, when they finished sixth on the nine-team table. 

The West Indies team, meanwhile, have secured number eighth finish in each of the three WTC cycles so far before the ongoing one.
