Cricketers are often known to adapt to their starry profession after gaining massive fame and popularity, especially in India where cricket is a culture. However, India’s wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan thinks otherwise.

In a surprising revelation, the pocket dynamo was found to be responsibly serving the government of India but not in his usual cricketing gear.

As India concluded the England T20I and ODI series in July, the next assignment for the Men in Blue is the Sri Lanka tour, where the team led by Shubman Gill have not included Ishan Kishan in the mix. Accepting the leisure time, the Bihar-born has now moved forward to his next prestigious job.

Ishan Kishan is the Assistant Manager of the Reserve Bank of India, Patna branch

In what can be called a shocking revelation for many, Kishan is actually a government job holder, unlike many Indian cricket stars. While players like Mohammed Siraj, among others, hold prestigious posts like the DSP of Telangana Police, they are not frequently seen serving in their roles as public servants.

Kishan, however, became an exception as he was clicked in his office uniform sharing space with his colleagues. Incidentally, Ishan Kishan is the Assistant Manager for the Reserve Bank of India, Patna, where he attended after the conclusion of India’s England tour.

However, the job that Kishan landed for the government of India is a new one. As per recent reports, Kishan secured his role in the RBI through sports quota and is set to receive a gross salary of around ₹1.25 lakh per month, with an estimated annual CTC of nearly ₹24 lakh.

In undated pictures currently going viral on social media, Kishan was seen wearing an oversized blue shirt and his official ID card around his neck. He posed with his colleagues and seniors after carrying out formal responsibilities in his office.

How did Ishan Kishan secure the government job?

The date since when Kishan joined his role has not been confirmed yet; however, it is being speculated that he might have joined his duties very recently. Securing the job is not easy, though, as it has multiple hurdles for a cricketer to qualify.

Firstly, to qualify for the sports quota, the cricketer must have represented the country in international tours and senior/under-23/under-19 national tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which Kishan has.

Currently aged 28 years old, Kishan also secured the age limit criteria, and after notifications were released by the public sector bank, Kishan had to apply and sit for physical examinations under the sports quota. After successfully passing the exam, Kishan had to go through document verification to secure the prestigious job.

Ishan Kishan to move away from cricket?

Although the SRH star chose a different path while still in the game, it is very unlikely that Kishan will move away from the sport itself. Even KL Rahul holds the post of RBI Assistant Manager. MS Dhoni, the former India captain, also took up prestigious roles in the Indian army while playing cricket, and none of them has stepped back from cricket itself.

Currently, Kishan is at the peak of his career, achieving heights with ease, recently also becoming the world No. 1 T20 batter. Hence, stepping away from cricket and moving towards a desk government job is out of the question. Most probably, Ishan Kishan will resume with the RBI duties till India’s next T20I or ODI assignments appear.
