Jasprit Bumrah bowled Team India to a comprehensive win in the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand. Defending 256 runs for a win at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the legendary India fast bowler picked up sensational figures of 4-15 from his four overs.
Apart from lifting the T20 World Cup crown, Bumrah also seized a huge national record for Team India, going past teammate Arshdeep Singh in the process.
Jasprit Bumrah becomes India’s most prolific bowler in T20 World Cups
Jasprit Bumrah picked up four wickets at an expense of just 15 runs from his four overs against New Zealand in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup on Sunday, March 8. The speedster started off his spell with the huge wicket of Rachin Ravindra in the powerplay, before dismissing Jimmy Neesham, Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner in the backend of the innings.

Bumrah even knocked over Neesham and Henry off successive deliveries as India folded up New Zealand for just 159 in 19 overs.
Through the course of his spell, the 32-year-old surpassed pace teammate Arshdeep Singh to become India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 World Cup matches. Jasprit Bumrah played his first T20 World Cup back in 2016, but was forced to miss the 2022 edition of the tournament in Australia owing to an injury.
Notably, both Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took field in the final against New Zealand with 36 wickets each to their name. With Arshdeep going wicketless in the title clash, his senior teammate extended his tally to 40 scalps. India vs New Zealand final: As it happened
India batted first and mounted 255-5 in 20 overs. Both openers, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma bashed swift half-centuries during their attacking 98-run partnership in just seven overs. Samson top-scored in the innings through his whirlwind 46-ball 89. Ishan Kishan also slapped a quick fifty, while Shivam Dube provided the slog-overs impetus.
In response, Jasprit Bumrah led India’s bowling charge by picking up figures of 4-15 in his four overs. Axar Patel also bagged three crucial wickets, as the hosts folded up New Zealand for just 159 to secure a huge 96-run win.
India script multiple historic firsts
With India winning the 2026 T20 World Cup, the ‘Men in Blue’ have now become the first side in history to go back-to-back in the tournament. India also became the first team to win three T20 World Cups overall.
Moreover, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, India became the first side to lift a T20 World Cup on home soil.
