Smriti Mandhana, Kranti Gaud and Yastika Bhatia set up big Indian win

As it happened, India Women batted first and charted 285 in the opening day of the first-ever women’s Test match to be played at Lord’s. Smriti Mandhana top-scored in the innings with her regal 83, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Deepti Sharma also punched out half-centuries in the middle order.

Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaud later snared sensational figures of 5-37 to bundle out England for just 170. Gaud also became the first ever bowler to pick up a five-fer at Lord’s in a women’s Test match, and her spell handed the visitors a strong 115-run lead.

Smriti Mandhana struck her second fifty of the match, and number three Yastika Bhatia made 113 off 158 balls as India declared at 341-7 on Day 3 to set up a 457-run target for the hosts.

On the final day, Sneh Rana picked up four wickets as England folded up for just 186 to hand India Women a huge 270-run victory before lunch.

What is the significance of India Women’s one-off Test win

As mentioned earlier, the match was the first-ever Women’s Test to be hosted by the iconic Lord’s in London, thus making India Women’s team the first side to win a Test at the ‘Home of Cricket’.
