Yastika Bhatia rained down a fiery century to pile on England’s misery on Day 3 of India’s one-off Test match at Lord’s. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter raced to the landmark figure from just 145 balls, having clattered 12 cracking boundaries in the process.

The innings not only marked Bhatia’s maiden Test century, but also helped her script a historic record at one of the most royal cricketing venues in the world.

India Women’s ongoing four-day affair against hosts England marks the first-ever Women’s Test match to be played at the iconic Lord’s in London. Unfazed by the grand occasion, Indian wicketkeeper-better Yastika Bhatia hammered down a scintillating century after resuming her innings on Day 3 at 39*.

The cricketer raced to the landmark figure from just 145 balls with a single off Issy Wong at the end of the 68th over of the second Indian innings. 

The 25-year-old has now become the first cricketer in history to punch out a century in a Women’s Test match at Lord’s, thus etching her name into the record books of the ‘Home of Cricket’.

Yastika Bhatia joins Kranti Gaud for historic first at Lord’s

Just a day ago, Indian fast bowler Kranti Gaud skittled England’s batting line-up with a sizzling five-wicket haul. In doing so, the youngster became the first bowler ever to take a five-fer in a Women’s Test at the iconic venue.

Gaud picked up five wickets at an expense of just 37 runs in 17 overs to steamroll England for just 170, thus helping India gain a sizeable 115-run lead at the halfway stage of the match. 

After Kranti Gaud’s record-breaking spell, Yastika Bhatia ensured Team India had another history-maker at Lord’s in London. 

India’s lead swells past 400 runs in Knight, Beaumont’s farewell Test

Yastika Bhatia’s century helped India’s lead soar past the 400-run mark around the halfway stage of Day 3. 

Earlier, India Women charted 285 in 74.5 overs on Day 1 courtesy of a sublime 83 from Smriti Mandhana and dazzling fifties from Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma. 

In response, England folded up for just 170 on Day 2 to trail the visiting ‘Women in Blue’ by 115 runs. For India, young fast bowler Kranti Gaud picked up sensational figures of 5-37, while Sayali Satghare and Sneh Rana also chipped in with two wickets each in the innings. 

Emboldened with a sizeable lead, Smriti Mandhana belted 70 runs off 130 balls to slap her second half-century of the match. The vice-captain also shared 50-plus partnerships with Shafali Verma and centurion Yastika Bhatia, before the latter marched on to motor India’s total past 250. 

Bhatia smeared 14 boundaries in her innings, and was eventually dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone right after India’s lead increased to over 400 runs in Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont’s farewell Test.
