Pakistan Fans On Rampage Against Jay Shah [Source: AFP, X]
In a scathing attack, Pakistan fans slammed ICC chairman Jay Shah for purposely ignoring the men in green on an important day. The trolls took to social media to express their anger and frustration.
The issue stemmed from the fact that on June 18, 2017, Pakistan won the Champions Trophy title by beating arch-rivals India in a thrilling final held at The Oval Stadium in London.
That victory marked Pakistan’s first successful victory in an ICC tournament in nearly two decades.
Pakistan fans target ICC chairman Jay Shah
Meanwhile, on June 18, 2026, Pakistan celebrated the ninth anniversary of their Champions Trophy victory. But some fans expected the ICC to make a post on the same to celebrate their past achievement.
However, there is no practice as such in the ICC where they are mandated to post something that happened nearly a decade ago. But Pakistan fans refused to believe that logic. Instead, they accused ICC chairman Jay Shah of being biased.
Before being elected as ICC head, Shah served as the BCCI secretary. Hence, fans believe he is using his power to ignore Pakistan on the world stage.
Pakistan fans filled social media with all sorts of hateful comments against Jay Shah, but a certain section of Indian fans also supported the ICC chairman, saying Pakistan should move on, as 2017 was a long time ago.

Pakistan’s downfall after 2017
That being said, the 2017 Champions Trophy victory was supposed to be the beginning of Pakistan’s dominance in world cricket. Instead, the reality turned out to be the exact opposite.
After 2017, Pakistan got eliminated from the group stages of 4 out of the 6 ICC tournaments held. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, they made it to the semi-finals, whereas in 2022, the men in green lost the finals of the T20 World Cup to England, thus finishing as runners-up.
However, apart from that, Pakistan struggled to stay competitive and hit new lows by losing to associate teams like the USA.
Pakistan’s fall from grace in Test cricket
Apart from white-ball cricket, Pakistan have fallen behind in the Test format as well. They are yet to qualify for a single WTC final. Moreover, in the last couple of years, the team lost multiple series at home.
Bangladesh, for instance, whitewashed them twice in a 2-game Test series held in Pakistan and Bangladesh, respectively. Amid all this, the PCB tried to salvage the damage by swapping captains, coaching staff and management within the board as well.
However, nothing yielded any result, as Pakistan is still among the bottom-ranked teams in the WTC 2025-27 cycle. At this rate, it's nearly impossible for the men in green to find success in this cycle as well.
