In a notable move, The Hundred women's team, Birmingham Phoenix, signed Pakistan captain Fatima Sana for the upcoming edition. She comes as a replacement after initially being ignored during the auction.

The Hundred Women’s competition 2026 will kick off on July 21 with MI London taking on Sunrisers Leeds at the Oval Stadium in London. While the squads for the new season are already locked in, a few last-minute replacements are still on the way.

Fatima Sana to join The Hundred Women in 2026

In the latest move, Birmingham Phoenix Women have signed Pakistan T20 captain Fatima Sana for the Hundred Women’s competition 2026. She will join as a wildcard player to replace Lucy Hamilton, who withdrew from the tournament on the orders of Cricket Australia.

Notably, this will be Sana’s debut in The Hundred if she gets a place in the playing XI. As one of the finest all-rounders in WT20Is right now, Fatima surely brings a lot of skills and experience to the table.

She is currently leading Pakistan in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England. Though her team is not doing so well, Fatima Sana has led from the front.

This move is also significant because Sana was initially overlooked and went unsold during the The Hundred 2026 auction. But now, she managed to find herself back in the mix.

Having said that, the Birmingham Phoenix Women kickstart their The Hundred 2026 season on July 24 against the Trent Rockets Women at Edgbaston Stadium.

Fatima Sana’s record in T20s

That being said, Fatima Sana is a seasoned player in the T20 format. In 60 WT20Is, she has picked up 53 wickets while also scoring 770 runs with the bat. Her highest score with the bat is a whopping 90 runs.

Most recently, in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 game between Pakistan Women and South Africa Women, Fatima scored 55* runs while also picking up 3 wickets for 16 runs in just 2.5 overs.

However, despite her outstanding all-round brilliance, Pakistan lost by 2 wickets to endure their second straight loss of the tournament. With just 3 more games to go, the road to the knockouts is tough for the women in green.

Pakistan Women to face Bangladesh next

In what will be a do-or-die game, Pakistan Women will compete with Bangladesh Women in the 15th fixture of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

With two losses so far, Pakistan dropped to fifth place in Group A with zero points and a negative NRR. If they fail against Bangladesh, the tournament will be more or less over for them.

On the other hand, Bangladesh are still alive in the knockout race with a single victory in 2 games. But again, winning against Pakistan is crucial to increase their stakes. The do-or-die game between Asian rivals will be held at the Southampton Stadium on June 20.
