Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy Winning Team And Where Are They Now?

18 June marks 9 years since Pakistan lifted their first-ever Champions Trophy. India suffered a heartbreak in the final as they dealt a 180-run defeat. Interestingly, it was also Pakistan’s last ICC event, and it has been a good 9 years since the hunt for the ICC trophy was on for the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB.

9 years is a long time, and most of the players from the 2017 Champions Trophy squad have retired and picked up a new job. Hence, this article will shed light on the 2017 Pakistan Champions Trophy winning team and where they are now?

Where Is Pakistan's 2017 Champions Trophy Winning Doing Now?

1. Azhar Ali

Azhar Ali slammed a brilliant 50 in the final, but his white-ball career didn’t go long, and the 41-year-old announced his ODI retirement in 2018. In November 2024, Ali was appointed as the PCB's Head of Youth Development. However, he stepped down from the role in 2025. He now works as an analyst.

2. Fakhar Zaman

Fakhar Zaman was the best batter for Pakistan in the final, where he slammed a brilliant century. At present, he is an active part of Pakistan’s white-ball set-up. Notably, Fakhar Zaman was recently handed a 2-match ban in PSL 2026 for a ball-tampering controversy.

3. Babar Azam

Babar Azam scored 32 runs in the 2017 final and eventually went on to captain Pakistan across all three formats. At present, Babar Azam is an active part of Pakistan’s cricket set-up and will next be seen against the West Indies for the Test series.

4. Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez, too, has left cricket and played his last in 2021. At present, Hafeez has his own YouTube channel and also comes on several shows as a presenter and expert.

5. Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik played cricket till the age of 43 and took retirement from PSL in January 2026. At present, Shoaib Malik has also entered the coaching business and appears on TV shows as a pundit.

6. Sarfaraz Ahmed

Sarfaraz Khan led Pakistan to their last ICC Trophy and announced his retirement from cricket in 2023. At present, Khan is serving as Pakistan’s red-ball head coach.  

7. Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim didn’t get to bat or bowl in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. He further took his retirement twice in the last nine years. While Wasim played his last for Pakistan in 2024, he continues to play PSL for Islamabad United.

8. Mohammad Amir

Mohammad Amir took 3/26 in the 2017 final – crucial spell against India. He retired from Test cricket in July 2019 at age 27 (after 36 Tests). Plays for Lahore Qalandars in PSL as an active player. Also, Amir appears on TV shows as a pundit. He recently got a UK visa, making him eligible for IPL.

9. Shadab Khan

Shadab Khan was the youngest player for Pakistan in that 2017 final squad.  He is currently part of Pakistan's white-ball set-up.

10. Hasan Ali

Hasan Ali took 2/45 in the 2017 final. The right-arm pace bowler with 64 ODIs for Pakistan. Not in Pakistan's current central contracts (as of 2025-2026), but Plays for Warwickshire/Birmingham Bears in England.

11. Junaid Khan

The Left-arm pace bowler with 62 ODIs for Pakistan. Long retired from international cricket. He last played for Pakistan in 2019 and is currently part of several coaching roles.
