Pakistan cricket hit a new low as they lost the 2-game Test series against Bangladesh with a 78-run defeat in the second game. This is the second time in the last two years that the Tigers have whitewashed the men in green, thus triggering a meme fest on social media.

Trailing 0-1 in the two-game series, Pakistan arrived at the second Test at Sylhet with a new ray of hope that was doused quickly. In the first inning, Litton Dasโ€™ century guided Bangladesh to 278 runs.

However, Pakistan responded with just 232/10 in the second innings and failed to grab a lead.

Bangladesh humiliate Pakistan in the second Test

In the third inning, Bangladesh capitalised on the momentum to score 390 runs. Mushfique Rahman scored 137 while Litton Das again scored a half-century.

Khurram Shahzad did pick two four-wicket-hauls in two innings combined, but he couldnโ€™t get support from the other end.

With 437 runs to chase in the fourth innings, Pakistan fumbled early to lose two wickets with just 47 runs on the board. Captain Shan Masood picked up the pieces to hit 71 and build a partnership with Babar Azam, who also hit 47.

Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan also showed resistance with a 134-run partnership, with Rizwan missing his hundred by just 6 runs. However, on day 5, the lower order collapsed completely.

Pakistan were bowled out for 358, thus losing the second Test by 78 runs. With that, Bangladesh sealed a 2-0 whitewash victory for the second time in the last two years.

Fans mock Pakistan for poor performance in Bangladesh

This defeat hurt Pakistan more because it was the first time they had lost a Test series on Bangladesh soil. Previously, the Tigers showed the same dominance on Pakistan soil to seal a 2-0 win.

Naturally, Pakistan cricket was ridiculed on social media once again. Many cricket followers slammed the men in green for their falling standings in international cricket.

They ridiculed the Shan Masood-led side for choking and failing to absorb the pressure despite having experience in the side.

That being said, after this loss, Pakistan have dropped to eighth place in the WTC standings, and their WTC final qualification hopes are formally destroyed.

Will Pakistan sack Shan Masood?

Amid Pakistanโ€™s poor run in Test cricket, chatter over Shan Masoodโ€™s future as Test captain has already begun. In his leadership, the men in green have lost 12 of the 16 Tests played.

Not only that, his record as a batter has also been poor. As skipper, Masood has scored just 1056 runs in 32 innings at an average of 34.06, including 2 centuries.

According to local Pakistan media, Babar Azam could get a shot at redemption, as he is the frontrunner to replace Shan Masood as Test captain. Earlier, Babar quit as all-format captain after the team's humiliating elimination from the 2023 ODI World Cup.

However, with the team currently lacking superstars, Pakistan may turn back to Babar Azam for Test captaincy.
