Jofra Archer landed on the wrong side of history during the IPL 2026 clash between the Rajasthan Royals and the Gujarat Titans. He bowled an 11-ball over and faced fans’ backlash on social media.

RR won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Riyan Parag missed out due to a hamstring injury, and Yashasvi Jaiswal took his place as stand-in captain for the game.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal handed over the new ball to RR’s prime fast bowler Jofra Archer. However, his opening over turned out to be a big disaster.

The over began positively for the Gujarat Titans as Sai Sudharsan slashed Archer for four, but things quickly spiralled out of control.

Archer bowled one no-ball, three wides and another wide that went for four runs. He repeatedly struggled with his line down the leg side.

The free-hit sequence and multiple extras prevented the over from ending for an extended period, frustrating both the bowler and the fielding side.

At one point, even Riyan Parag was shown looking tense in the dugout as Rajasthan completely lost rhythm early in the innings. Jofra Archer finally ended the over after 11 balls and conceded 18 runs off it.

The over equalled the record for the longest over in IPL history, matching previous 11-ball overs bowled by Mohammed Siraj, Tushar Deshpande, Shardul Thakur, Sandeep Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh.

Archer accused of fixing by fans

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer set social media ablaze with such an unusual over. Many fans accused him of fixing amid rumours of IPL players getting honey-trapped by bookies in the ongoing 2026 season.

Not only that, but a few fans also believed that Archer sabotaged Yashasvi Jaiswal’s career as captain with a bizarre first over.

That being said, Archer’s over gave GT a perfect platform. They reached 70 in the first 5 overs, and Tushar Deshpande and Brijesh Sharma also took a beating from Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill.

The honey trap controversy explained

Jofra Archer is being linked to the honey trap controversy after his 11-ball over in IPL 2026. This wild accusation comes after the BCCI reportedly feared that IPL players are at high risk of getting honey trapped.

'Honey trapping' refers to situations where the cricketers could be manipulated, compromised, blackmailed, or trapped through romantic or personal interactions.

Hence, to curb the issue, the BCCI issued an 8-page directive to all the franchises to ensure no unauthorised person gets access to hotel rooms without the team manager’s approval.

Also, surprise inspections may also be carried out by a joint BCCI-IPL operations task force. Players and support staff have additionally been instructed to inform security officials before leaving team hotels for personal outings or private engagements.

This is to ensure that the league's integrity is protected and no bookies are able to reach the players.
