Zimbabwe Cricket has made some huge announcements regarding its coaching setup and selection panel after securing a historic Test win over Bangladesh in Harare. Ahead of the white-ball series against the same opponents, the cricket board has appointed legendary former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh as Zimbabwe’s Senior Men’s substantive Bowling Coach.

Earlier this year, Walsh was also appointed as Zimbabwe’s bowling consultant for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. Under his guidance and that of head coach Justin Sammons, the Zimbabwe cricket team knocked out Australia and topped the Group B points table to storm into the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

On Wednesday, July 1, Zimbabwe Cricket Board (ZC) appointed West Indies pace legend Courtney Walsh as Zimbabwe’s bowling coach after his successful spell with the team at the 2026 T20 World Cup

The board also retained Justin Sammons as Zimbabwe’s head coach, as the ‘Chevrons’ continue to enjoy some unprecedented success in the game in the past few months.

As usual, the coaching staff led by Sammons will also include batting and assistant coach Dion Ebrahim, fielding and lower-order batting coach Stuart Matsikenyeri, strength and conditioning coach Curtly Diesel, team doctor Dr Solomon Madzogo, team manager Dilip Chouhan, logistics manager Lovemore Banda and media manager Darlington Majonga.

Additionally, the board retained David Mutendera as convener and appointed former cricketers Hamilton Masakadza and Christopher Mpofu as national selectors.

Another former player, Elton Chigumbura, was retained as the head coach of the Zimbabwe Men’s U19 team.

Confirming the appointments and retentions, ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said “the Board is pleased to endorse these appointments following recommendations from our Cricket Committee. We believe they represent a strong blend of experience, expertise, continuity and fresh perspectives that will help advance our strategic objectives across our national teams and player pathway structures.”

Zimbabwe script historic win over Bangladesh

A couple of days ago, Zimbabwe trounced Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The outcome marked Zimbabwe’s biggest margin of victory in Test cricket, surpassing their last year’s effort against Afghanistan at the same venue.

Senior opener Innocent Kaia won the ‘Player of the Match’ for his courageous 140-run knock on Days 1 and 2. Fast bowlers Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri and Brad Evans also picked up wickets in a canter to shoot out Bangladesh twice under 200 runs in the match.

Zimbabwe to host Bangladesh, India in nine white-ball games

The Zimbabwe cricket team will now host Bangladesh in three ODIs and three T20I matches between July 6 and July 19. While the ODI series will be hosted by the Harare Sports Club, the T20Is will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

Later this month, Zimbabwe will also host world champions Team India for a three-match T20I series in Harare between July 23 and July 26.
