Harry Brook is set to resume his leadership role for England through the upcoming five-match T20I series against world champions India. Under his leadership, the English cricket team lost to India in the semifinal of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup a couple of months ago.
Ahead of the five-match series, Brook spoke about his commitment towards England cricket, especially after missing the past few IPL seasons including the recently-concluded IPL 2026.
Harry Brook says he prefers Hundred over IPL
While speaking before England’s series-opening first T20I against India, home captain Harry Brook stated that he is fully committed towards England cricket. The 27-year-old added that while he does not prefers playing franchise tournaments, England’s very own The Hundred is the only league he is interested in playing.

Brook further stated that his commitment towards England and The Hundred teams is also the reason why has not played any IPL or PSL seasons off late.
The England skipper said “I've committed completely to England cricket. I've said that I don't want to play any franchise cricket barring the Hundred and given everything that I want to do is to play cricket for England and whatever I do on and off the field is to try and be and perform as well as I possibly can for England, and hence the reason I don't play in the IPL and PSL and all the other franchise competitions.”
Harry Brook officially barred from the IPL
Compatible to Harry Brook’s claims, the cricketer has hardly shown any interest in taking part in the IPL in recent years. Ever since taking part in the IPL 2023 season for the SRH franchise, the cricketer has opted out of the 2024 and 2025 editions of the tournament, despite putting his name on the auction list.
The BCCI has now officially barred Brook from participating in an IPL season until 2028.
Notably, the firebrand England middle-order batter has also not played in any PSL season since representing the Lahore Qalandars franchise back in 2021-22.
England to host India in five-match series
Harry Brook will now lead the England team in their upcoming five-match home T20I series against Team India. The series will be played between July 1 and July 11 across five different venues.
The first T20I of the series will be hosted by the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, July 1 and the action is slated to commence from 10:00 PM IST onwards.
Soon after the series, Brook will re-join the Sunrisers Leeds franchise for the upcoming 2026 Men’s event of The Hundred in England.
He will be joined by fellow seasoned pros like Mitchell Marsh, Ryan Rickelton, Zak Crawley, Abrar Ahmed, Matthew Potts among others in the team.
