India captain Shubman Gill retired hurt on Wednesday during their first ODI against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Gill had to leave the field due to cramps after playing a well-crafted 75-ball 80, which had 11 fours and a six.
Even though Gill set the platform for others to get the job done for the Men in Blue, it was a worrying sign for people around the world, thinking whether he would miss the second ODI between India and England, scheduled to be held at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Thursday (July 16).
Shubman Gill Clears Air On His Availability For IND Vs ENG 2nd ODI
Speaking on the BBC’s Test Match Special (TMS), Gill himself broke the silence on his availability for the IND Vs ENG 2nd ODI after the major setback.
There, he said it was no major concern but a cramp which led him to retire hurt, and he should be fit and fine for the upcoming ODI, where India will aim to secure a win in order to secure a series victory.
"I'm feeling better. Just a bit of cramp. I wanted to finish the job for the team but I had to come out. Very glad with the result," Shubman Gill said on TMS.
Amid failures from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Gill stood tall to guide India to the 259-run target. Unfortunately, he could not stay till the end.

However, a handy 35 from Shreyas Iyer, coupled with half-centuries from Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, ensured India to cross the finishing line with six wickets and 5.4 overs to spare.
How India Bowlers Set Up Victory Over England
After winning the toss, England captain Harry Brook decided to bat first with the aim of posting a big total on the board. They got the start they were looking for, with Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell putting 61 runs on the board.
However, India’s latest pace sensation Gurnoor Brar drew the first blood, getting the wicket of Jacob Bethell and then Ben Duckett in the same over. In little time, England slipped to 107/6, with Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna joining hands to give India total control.
Nevertheless, Liam Dawson and Joe Root made sure England would get to a respectable total with gritty knocks. Though they could post more than 258 had they not lost all 10 wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Lord's To Have IND Vs ENG ODI Decider
Meanwhile, even if England win the IND Vs ENG 2nd ODI on Thursday, that will only level the series.
India, who had humiliating T20I series defeats in Ireland and England in recent times, will take that, as that would set cricket’s most iconic venue, Lord’s, to have the ODI series decider on July 19, Sunday.
