Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both endured flop returns against England in the first ODI of the three-match series. The opening match of the BBL 2026-27 season will be hosted by the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai later this year.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, July 14. 

BBL 2026-27 schedule revealed, Chennai to host opener

Cricket Australia has announced the entire schedule of the upcoming BBL 2026-27 season. After months of reports, the opening match of the tournament will indeed be hosted by the M. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, thus marking the first-ever instance of BBL going global. 

The match will be played between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers on December 12, and the league will run up until January 26 the following month.

Litton Das opts out of Galle Gallants for LPL 2026

Litton Das has pulled out of the upcoming LPL 2026 season in Sri Lanka. He was slated to represent the Galle Gallants franchise, and was in line to make his return to the tournament after three years.

The Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter was also ruled out of Bangladesh’s all-format series in Zimbabwe owing to an injury. As of now, Das is still rehabilitating for his calf injury back home. 

Brydon Carse added to England squad for India ODIs

Brydon Carse has been added to the England squad for the three-match ODI series against Team India at home. The fast-bowling all-rounder will be making his return to the national side after recovering from the wrist and elbow injuries he sustained during the Vitality T20 Blast 2026 season. 

The 30-year-old last played ODI cricket way back in November 2025 last year during England’s white-ball tour of New Zealand.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli flop on national return vs England

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli failed to go big for Team India on their national return against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Chasing 259 runs for a win in the first ODI of the three-match series, the legendary opener made a sluggish 11 off 21 balls with one boundary before getting dismissed by Sam Curran. 

Kohli, meanwhile, struck just five off six deliveries before getting trapped in front by fast bowler Jofra Archer.

Desert Vipers on path to leave before ILT20 2026

The Desert Vipers franchise is reportedly planning to exit from the ILT20 ahead of this year’s 2026 season in the UAE. As per reports, the franchise owners have already conveyed their decision to the tournament organizers.

It is learnt that the title-winning franchise is planning an exit owing to their differences with ILT20 organizers over franchise fees and issues involving the business model of the league.
